Hey guys. Unfortunately what a lot of others have been saying regarding quality control is still an issue with the Model X.

The second I sat in my new car at the Fremont pickup center, I could hear a buzzing coming from the center dashboard.

The delivery specialist acknowledged. Now I have to bring it to PA and drive an ICE for an unknown period of time while they figure out if it's the MCU, Fan, whatever.

It literally took 3 seconds to diagnose.

Does Tesla even give a shiz about their product?

Could you have refused delivery? But your general comment re: quality control, I totally agree with.

I could have refused delivery, but I want to support Tesla and did not want to come off as petty.

But I don't know - maybe I should have refused...

You'd think that someone would do a once over on the vehicle and address stuff like that before scheduling for pickup.

Could the buzzing be the Autopilot 2 computer's fans? They are pretty loud. Behind the glove compartment...

No, they don't need a better team, they need a completely new team... Quality issues are ongoing, predictable, and fluctuate in severity based on relation to quarterly end... This has to indicate that the current management and staffing for this team aren't working and should be replaced with people who can actually do the job consistently, and reliably...

Trust me, you should have refused. You are not "helping Tesla". What you are doing is possibly getting stuck with a $100K lemon.

It's more of a fan continuously running and hitting a wire kind of noise.

Definitely not normal. I am afraid the only thing you can do is take it in. Keep us posted.

They drove a Model S from Fremont so I don't have to deal with an ICE car.

    Service time estimate is unknown.

Met this situation the first day my car delivered, SC teared down the center dashboard and fixed the problem, they told me maybe something's stuck by the fan behind the center dashboard, but they couldn't find it, so maybe you got the same problem.

BTW a better QC team? Can't agree more!

I wouldn't say you need a new team, because that implies it takes more education to identify, for example in this scenario, a fan noise, when in reality all you need is a set of ears.

The truth of the matter is that the issue must be procedural. Maybe you do need some new people at the top who know how to put effective quality control processes in place, but as far as the actual quality control tasks go, I doubt someone inspected it and missed the noise. Either they found it and didn't report it, which one would only do if told to, or they didn't inspect it properly in the first place, which goes with the job description. Either way, the issue is top-down.

Fix the process, fix the problem.

    Update:

I spoke to an excellent individual high up at Tesla yesterday. They helped get the car into service asap and get me a non ice loaner.

Service was completed just now and hopefully I can put this headache behind.

Thanks all. Sorry if I overreacted at any point - I was pretty upset.

Model X still seems to have more issues, especially FWD squeaks, or maybe that's what I notice the most when I drive X. Still I do love X's.
I was upset getting my 2014 P85D because of a dent and a couple other cosmetic issues. They should have been dealt with before delivery. Now after nearly three years of mostly flawless service (single exception- a 12v battery) I had nearly forgotten about that. I do think it is time for Tesla to improve delivery. Many of the new buyers are not likely to be so tolerant of inconsistencies as we ahem been. That said I had equally problematical deliveries with Porsche, Ferrari, Maserati and BMW. Maybe I jinx the process, but I doubt it.

We are experiencing the same problem with our MX (delivered late Sep 2017). After nine days in the shop, the SC could not fix the problem. They did, however, advise that this is a “known issue” with Tesla engineering. However, it is a “low priority” as it does not involve a “safety related issue.”

My SC indicated that we should call Tesla headquarters and report our dissatisfaction with the buzzing/static sound. From what I understand, if they receive enough complaints regarding the issue, they will escalate the fix. Under their advisement, I contacted Tesla. The representative was very friendly and promptly reported my concerns to the team handling matters such as this.

I conducted a series of tests in which I was able to get the sound to turn on and off for up to three minutes. It is a fairly long read, but you may find it interesting and perhaps useful.

There are also two other threads I have found with Model X owners reporting the same problems. I have driven three other Model X’s in the past month. Of the four (including ours), only one car didn’t buzz. That was an older vehicle. The other three have exactly the same problem you’re experiencing.

Not surprised others have the issue but very surprised to hear your X has been in the shop for such a long period of time when they can just replace the MCU.

Unless Tesla offers me a free upgrade to EAP or something along those lines, I don't think I can get over the crap experience I had. I also noticed some damage to my right side (scratches) that the car was delivered to me with, but now it's on me. I very much so want the company to succeed but in reality they have lost me as a future customer and I've been telling people the Bolt is a safer bet QC wise (which I an convinced is true).

This is what you said on 8/22/17:

So now you were not overreacting and you want something for your annoyance, give me a break.

The people responsible for delivering cars should have been part of the layoffs for performance issue...
