Model X Premium Upgrade Price Decrease — What it means for existing orders

I picked up my model s today and asked about this. The SAs huddled for a bit. When the got back they said you would not lose your deposit if you reordered to get the lower price. From their point of view they could sell your original order with no issue. So they would rather have a happy customer as long as you didn’t mind waiting for the new order from the beginning again.

This was at the Tyson’s corner SC

Just out of curiosity, and seeing as I'm in the same boat as welcomewagon and others, CAN you buy from a remote OA? I mean, you're not serious, right? Aren't they just going to tell me to call my local center (which in my case is 300 miles away and has already essentially told me to take a hike).

@welcomewagon, not sure if my Delivery Specialist is correct or not but he gave me a different response. I emailed him this afternoon (2pm Eastern) asking if whether my price will be discounted to reflect the price drop for PUP (something I ordered in late June with my car). His response is copied below. I hope he is right and that this is not him speculating.

No need to worry!

You should receive that discount regardless.

By the end of the month it should reflect on the purchase price for your vehicle.

According to my sales rep with the price decrease they increased interest rate and money factor. So according to him even though the price of my car would be 3k less my monthly lease payment is still cheaper on my locked in old price by 20$ month

Still would take you 10+ years to break even.

Edit: Not joking, I actually did the math.

Hello,
I'm in the reverse case of above!
Just ordered my MX100D before price change (when PUP was a 6k option) but without PUP. For sure my contract with Tesla is that the price remain as it was when I ordered.
I suppose that Tesla integrate the PUP to all new cars to reduce cost and option management at the factory.
Now I'm wondering how Tesla is managing the last cars without PUP. Will they integrate some PUP components (without soft activation)?

You will not get PUP. You will pay the exact price you agreed to. If your order is not confirmed yet, then you can still cancel and reorder, but if the 3 days grace period is gone, you're stuck on a one-way boat with us to PUPgate 2018.

Tesla is also building cars as inventory. Possibly the new ones comes up with new pup pricing.

Check if you can switch your order to the inventory one. Color and options may differ.

However, option like EAP can be added if the inventory car does not have it.

Actually i've reserved many things for online pickup from Walmart.com and the price online is usually different from what is in the store. By your logic, i should pay the in store price that everyone else is paying that day and not the online price i got yesterday.
I think typically, Walmart and other retailers do typically allow you to pay the lower of the 2 prices, I know for sure that Walmart does. They may not automatically discount, but they will upon request. Hell, if you order online and pick up at Lowes, and the price is lower, they give you an extra 10% of the difference to make sure you're "always getting the best price" (you do have to request the price match, but when you do, its 110% of the difference they take off your bill).

You don't have to be happy, that's just the reality of the situation. Think of ALL the people who didn't order the PUP, should they now be forced to buy a car with PUP since that is whats for sale today and pay the extra $3k? If your answer is no, then you're a hypocrite.

If your answer is yes, then well sure Tesla should honor today's price.
Well, no. If they don't get PUP when they ordered without it, thats fair. If Tesla runs out of the non-PUP parts and decides to just upgrade them for free, they're lucky and get the best deal (and there is the possibility someone literally does not want the PUP even if it was free)

Its not being a hypocrite, its good customer service. The only places that don't really typically do this are other dealerships, house sales (since every one is literally different and property values change sometimes just being a few lots over, so that one kind of makes sense), and places where there is no customer service at all, like eBay auctions (even most of eBay's new, unopened items will price match competitors with 110% of the difference).

Obviously the cut off point is a point of contention that varies between stores (some do it for the entire return period, like Best Buy, some do it until its received by you, some only give you 48 hours after ordering, etc)

My 100D was ordered with premium pack, autopilot and full self driving. Finished in production july 9th and it’s still on the docks in the US awaiting shipping to Norway. Asked if we would get the price reduction at time of delivery in late September- early October. We have gotten this before, but now it’s just plain NO. Even if the inventory cars has been price adjusted down

I’m wondering if our cars will be on the same ship. Mine left production on the 25th...

Unfortunately, car shipping is nowhere near that evolved. There's no real way for any of the manufacturers to track their shipments. The car shipping industry is very low margin and it's amazing to me that cars get there in as good of condition as they do.

I'm surprised about this. Tesla has done price book adjustments in the past. I can understand why they would not - they are not obligated to, no seller of cars with a signed MVPA is - but they could still do something. Perhaps the cash crunch is really bad.
