Model X purchased before the announcement

I purchased a 60D white model X with a November delivery date and I haven't been notified that it has gone into production yet. I did get a VIN number right after purchase.

I paid for the previous version of auto pilot, I wonder if they will want more money since the hardware will now be enhanced auto pilot or if I really just lucked out?

I also have a X60D, 5 seat, that just received a VIN. Have not gone into production yet. I'd emailed my delivery contact to confirm it's being build with the new AP hardware. If we do receive the new hardware, we'll still need to pay the extra $4k to enable full autonomy.

Correct but I would never want to pay for that now anyway as it's so far away with legislative hurtles before they could enable it

There are two levels of autonomy, priced differently. What was in AP 1.0 is now $5,000 instead of $3,000. The most likely thing is that we all get that $5,000 thing for the $2.5K/$3K we paid, which is pretty cool itself.

The next level costs $3,000 more. It's unlikely we'll get this for free. I sure hope they don't try and charge $4,000 for it as if we ordered it "after delivery".

My dream is that they give us the $3K feature for free, because in reality, it sounds like our AP1.0 features won't be working for a while. They say December, but that's Elon time, so I won't be surprised if it's February. So we will have paid $3K for AP which won't work for months after we get the car, even though it was advertised as working when we ordered.

From my DS: "All cars being built from today forward will be equipped with these new features. As your car has not yet entered production, it will have this new hardware. Please let me know if you have any questions"

I confirmed model x 60d Oct 12. No delivery date, just a VIN.

Interesting.. so you get the features of both of the paid AP 2.0 options free?

I am in the same boat as you (except with an S)

I guest what "have this new hardware" means is probably you will get the $5000 with the old prices, and since the hardware is ready, $3000 extra bucks can be paid to enable fully autonomy before taking the delivery.

But since my order has been placed but hasn't hit the production yet, I wish it could be even better.

Did you already pay for auto pilot? Are they saying that you have to pay the difference for auto pilot 2.0 software?
No I did not. Due to tax reason in Denmark I was advised to get it activated after delivery, as it allowed me to save around $500. However that seems to not been that good advise in this situation as I now have to pay around $3000 more, depending on what Tesla ends up doing for people that ordered it with the car.

does anyone know whats the price difference? It seems we are getting conflicting replies from DS.

I think there a couple options that Tesla can do:
1) there is no price difference. The 2500 or 3000 dollars you paid for autopilot includes everything- autopilot 2.0 and also full autonomous driving
2) there is a price difference. you get the basic autopilot but need to fork another 3000 dollars for the full autonomous driiviing
3) they make you pay the autopilot from scratch so you need to fork over 8000 dollars and you get the original 2500 or 3000 you paid, you get that back.

My 60D is also scheduled for a late November / early December delivery. I emailed my delivery specialist asking how this affects my X.

Here was his reply:

These are your options:

· You can upgrade to Enhanced Auto-Pilot for an additional $2000* or opt for full autonomy** for an additional $5000.*
or
· You are welcome to keep your current configuration, but please keep in mind that since your Model X will be produced with the new Auto-Pilot hardware some of the standard Auto-Pilot features (auto-emergency braking, side collision warning, lane holding) will not be available until the new hardware completes validation sometime later this year.

*Pricing is pre-delivery; post-delivery upgrade will include $1000 surcharge
**The full autonomous capability option will be made available pending further validation and regulatory approval.

I am a bit confused about the auto-pilot options. What is the difference between the $3000 AP I purchased and the new $5000 Enhanced Auto-Pilot?

I don't see the $3000 AP as an option anymore. Is Tesla going to "dumb down" auto-pilot for us people who purchased prior to this announcement if we do not pay the extra $2k? Seems like a lot of work for very few cars.

I am still waiting on a response....

I don't think any of the DS know what they are talking about. it seems that person's statement contradicts itself:

Like if you keep everything as is: i.e. you paid 3000 for the original AP, do you get the enhanced AP at no additional cost? I don't understand the DS response. Please let us know what his or her response?
