This may not be the right place to query people, as this may be more of a “how my trip was”, instead of “any suggestions”, so I apologize if I am mis-posting here.

Heading from Philly to Vermont, not a huge road trip, but other than the extremely generous township of Bennington providing free EV charging, any suggestions for Bennington, VT and other surrounding towns? I.e. cool restaurants with EV charging? I did sign up with ChargePoint, and i have plugshare, but just wanted some feedback from the group here about good experiences.

Heading out tomorrow evening, I could use Feeling Lucky/Hungry, but I’d rather it be an EV friendly joint. Thank you in advance.

Well, finished the trip. The 2018 P100D performed extremely well. From Delaware County, PA to Bennington and north and back, was the trip. About 900 miles with 2 kids, 2 adults. Weather was so mild we never put the heat on. Just cold air once in a while.

The overall Wh/m was 312 for the 900 miles. On the way home, we drove from Albany, NY to Media, PA without stopping. About 285 miles, and left the SC in Albany at 97% and arrived home with 9%. I realize without using heat the car would have done well, but it definitely did much better than i thought. PSI was about 48 all around (hot). Caraoke helped a lot, and autopilot performed outstandingly.

Vermont paints the lines on their roads so much nicer than PA, autopilot seemed pleased.

Anyway, X did great. It was an amazing experience doing it in an EV this time. Also, highly recommend people visit Lawson’s Finest Liquids next time you’re in VT. Place is very cool.

Sorry for the multiple posts. Forgot to mention that I stayed at the speed limit, 65Mph (for the most part) pretty much the entire ride. and 5 miles over at most on side roads. Refrained from punching it. just hung out in the right lane and enjoyed AP.

I love road trips! I am new to the Model X but I just took 1st place on the TeslaFi leaderboard. 407.7 miles but I had 50 miles left. I only just recently signed up for TeslaFi. I wouldve also had 2nd and 3rd place too. Oh well, next time.

Phenomenal car! We are all so lucky to own this beautiful computer on wheels!

I forgot to switch TeslaFi from 3 to X. Is yours a performance? Or non?

That's a seriously impressive number. Two questions: How fast were you going, and just how big is your bladder?!? :p

    Thanks. Haha

I held it the whole time. It got a little tough at the end.

I was on the highway doing 60 for the first half then 55 for the second half. Slightly slower at the start and end.

Your numbers are amazing for an X, and i never noticed that part of the site on TeslaFi. And what blows me away is the person who got 151% efficiency at 74Mph (holy crap!), across 400 miles and they had a 420 Foot elevation in a Model 3 AWD. That is just almost unbelievable.

Sorry this was a bit off-topic, but truly awesome achievements.

There's something wacky in those numbers, probably an incorrect average speed - 400 miles in 6 hours and 17 minutes should be around 64 mph. Getting that kind of efficiency at that speed is still downright amazing.

The efficiency percentages are a little artificial, using TeslaFI's own number that you can adjust for your car - but 147 Wh/mile is indeed impressive, especially at freeway speeds. Maybe a lot of drafting can get you there...

Thank you! I am doing something very cool to get those numbers but I cant announce it quite yet. I am applying for a patent and I need to be careful right now. I already have said too much on my youtube channel. I will hopefully know more about my patent application on Wednesday.

Yeah I agree, the M3 in 1st place has some amazing numbers. HE DROVE FOR 12 HOURS AND 36 MINUTES AT AN AVERAGE SPEED OF 38MPH! HOLY COW! I really want to beat him though, pretty bad. haha I think I couldve had him on this first trip but I was ready to be done by the end. I have a few trips planned this winter so once I am out of NY in better weather maybe I can beat his range.

Yeah the efficiency of some of these drives is insane. I honestly dont know how they got there unless they were being pulled by another vehicle. I did the math and their wh/mile is accurate based on the miles driven and the kwh used. Just seems super fishy. Very interesting though. I wish I could talk to them.

I didn't hyper mile or fudge the numbers at all. The product I built is the reason I got such high range. Like I said in the post above though, I have to be careful what I say until my patent is approved.

I am planning a trip from NJ to Ft. Lauderdale this holiday.

It will be 1,180 miles each way. I am doing it in 2 days; roughly 11 hours the first day, and 12 hours the second. This includes charging stops. Also stopping at a hotel with destination chargers. So may save a charging stop on the second day. I have this all plotted in "A Better Route Planner", which does not take into account the destination charger for the second day.

I am going to try to document the trip and may post it to YouTube.

In preparation for the journey, I bought some extension cords and adapters for various power adapters. Power can be found all over, but not always easy to get at it. Things like camp grounds and RV parks are good sources in a pinch too. There will be plenty of superchargers on my route, but like having these available to me if I really needed it.

I purchased the 14-50 adapter for my mobile charger and also the following:

Camco 30' PowerGrip Heavy-Duty Outdoor 50-Amp Extension Cord for RV and Auto - This is just to extend a 50 amp line farther than my mobile charger may be able to reach on it's own.

Gomadic Electric Vehicle Big Three 220v Charger Adapter Kit Includes NEMA 14-50R to NEMA 10-30P L14-30P and 10-50P - Collection of most types of 220v plugs that could be found. If I can tap/convert anything to a 14-50R, my mobile charger or extension plug can tie into it.
It was missing one type of 220v plug, so I bought a 4th one... and just put it in the same carrier as the above kit came with. ;)

JuiceBox Electric Vehicle Charging 30A (4 Prong) New Dryer Adapter 240V NEMA 14-30P to 240V NEMA 14-50R - The one extra connector type

15-ft 12/3 Heavy Duty Lighted SJTW Indoor/Outdoor Extension Cord by Watt's Wire - Lastly a heavy duty 110v extension cable for any 110 sources as a slow last resort. :D

I built the worlds only Chademo extension cable if you are interested. It’s for sale. I call it the Chadeconda. It’s 16’ if I remember correctly.

Should be an easy trip. There are lots and lots of supercharging options for that route these days, and it's cooled off enough you should get fairly consistent fast charges.

I have done this trip 4 times in the last 3 years, from Orange County, NY all the way to Key West with our 2016 60D... yes, 60KWh battery with a whopping 205 miles of charge on a good day. :)

Never once had a problem with range anxiety. Like @Saghost said, plenty of superchargers along the route. Good luck with your trip, looking forward to your YouTube video.

    Thanks All!

I got the extensions and other cables as just overall options. I don't 'expect' issues on this trip, but figured it was worth the money to have plenty of charging options available to me.

One of the things I was telling a friend about charging infrastructure, is that technically it is everywhere. It may not all be premium experiences, but anywhere with a power outlet is a potential filling station.

When in Vermont we were at a Hampton Inn. All they had was a 120v outlet outside. Got maybe a few % overnight. Then drove to a PlugShare place in town that was free but the service charges your card $1. I didn’t feel like giving a non plug share entity my CC info and it was confusing as hell to decipher how to do it.

So I drove back to the hotel and basically used up all that % I had pulled the night before on a failed charging attempt. Sometimes SCs are worth driving out of your way for especially if you cannot afford to leave your car for hours at a super slow public charger.
