Model X self register and title option

Tesla sent me a letter giving me the option to do self register the new 2020 Tesla Model X I purchased last week. Have any of you done a tesla ‘self registration’. This means i do registration and titling of my tesla, and tesla will refund to me any fees and taxes i paid to tesla. I am in Austin, TX. Should I opt for the self registration. It might be faster than having tesla do it and mail me my permanent license plates.

I did it in GA 2 years ago. They still had to get the system in the registration system, but after that, I did the rest with a visit to the county DMV.

Why not just let Tesla handle it? Save you a trip or two to the DMV and having to worry about having all the paperwork in order.

For me, it was wanting an EV tag. Otherwise I would have to wait for a standard tag to be issued and then switch it with an EV tag (for a little added cost compared to getting it right the first time).
Could also be same situation for customized plates. Special number, special plate, all sorts of extra $$ things available from the DMV.
