Wiki Model Y 19" vs 20" Decision Guide

I just swapped my 21" Uberturbines to 19" Tsportline TSV's; I've never dealt with plastic lug nut covers before so I had some difficulty initially but its very easy after the first try. I'm hoping mainly for ride quality enhancement while keeping as close to a stock factory look as possible... I also took the opportunity to switch to All Season Tires (Michelin Pilot Sport 4 AS).

Pics attached in case anyone wants to see a comparison:

I just bought a model Y, and on 2nd week of ownership made a curb rash on rear right wheel. Apparently this car is a little wider than the model 3 that I am used to ha ha. Good thing I'm replacing these wheels soon. I'm buying 8.5" wheels to be safe.

Edit: BTW those of you that are buying 19" wheels - are you keeping the stock tires?

Trying to find some MYP wheels - Tsportline has some Model 3 wheels - I assume these will work for my Y just fine? 20 x 8.5 -

I have induction wheel 20 right now, so from my understanding replika 20 8.5 is also a good choice right with winter tires. Also I could use those 20inch replica rims for summer as well with all season tire?
Yes 20x8.5 would work great, and you can definitely put whatever type tire you want on them winter or all-season.

But you'll probably want to go down to 19x8.5, because there are way more options for tires (especially winter tires), and the tires are way cheaper than the 20" size.

19" are not necessarily cheaper than 20". For the Conti DWS 06 Plus and the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 4, the two top rated UHPAS tire, they are actually cheaper in 20" sizes for the Y than the 19" sizes.

Got a source? Are you comparing 255/40R20 and 255/45R19 with the proper load/speed ratings for tires that can actually ship?

I’d love if this were true, because I am definitely planning to put my beloved DWS on my 20s when the stock Goodyears are worn.

Edit: I just checked and the DWS don’t (yet) come in the 20” size. You can go 255/35R20 (too thin sidewall for me and 2.5% speedo off), or 255/45R20 which is 3.5% off and at 29” outer diameter I’m pretty sure they’d rub (I think i1Tesla tried 29” and they rubbed).

29" is fine. I have the crossclimate 2's installed at 255/45R20 on my MYP and there's no rubbing.

I used Tire Rack:

Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 4 in 255/45-19 = $283 (OEM Size)
Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 4 in 255/40-20 = $275 (OEM Size)
Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 4 in 255/45-20 = $247 (Compatible Size, no rubbing)

Conti DWS 06 Plus in 255/45-19 = $244 (OEM Size)
Conti DWS 06 Plus in 255/45-20 = $208 (Compatible Size, no rubbing)

Many people are running 255/45-20 now, they fit perfectly fine. There's even a thread where someone posted photos of the steering knuckle. The clearance was fine.

Goodyear came out with the tires I want GOODYEAR INTRODUCES ITS FIRST ELECTRIC VEHICLE REPLACEMENT TIRE IN NORTH AMERICA, THE ELECTRICDRIVE GT

but they are 255/45R19 104W XL

If I wanted these tires, what size rims do I need? 19" 8.5, 9, 9.5 35mm offset?

If i was going to go 20" should i do 8.5, 9, 35mm offset? I'm hoping they come out with larger tire size, i want a quiet ride, soft ride, no curb rashes but great looking rims. Are there any posts that just show what the Y looks like before and after with different tire/rims sizes?

I already upgraded suspension with the redwood motorsports ohlins fully adjustable suspension, and really want to get the quietest softest ride possible.

I don't know if they will fit OTHER widths, but I have this size on my 9.5 rims.

any pictures? pros/cons? curb rash? is it flush to the fenders? how's the ride?
I can share photos but I don't have the specific Goodyear tires you were asking about, I was just saying that 255/45/R19 fit on 19" 9.5 wheels. That's the stock Gemini size (rim) as well as the stock tire size. It is pretty flush. I don't have any curb rash but I'm careful and used to driving cars with much lower profile tires so I avoid potholes, getting close to curbs, and take appropriately wide right hand turns so as to avoid scraping the rear passenger wheel.

On a side note, from pictures I've seen, 255/45-20 on the inductions look better than 255/40-20 does
Yep, I just put these on my Y Inductions, then drove across Canada and back. Great tire, fit perfectly. Comfortable and quiet as I've come to expect. (I've bought DWS for many years on my cars and love them.)

Handled hundreds of kilometers on gravel roads, hundreds more on highway in torrential downpour. They are wet-road slayers, which is why I went with them.

I already have dedicated snow tires, becuase I live in a hilly area. The Y is an absolute BEAST with good snow tires, like my Michelin PA5s. Even with our wet snotty snow on the west coast here. Though physics is against you there, you can't drive like you can in the drier snow up in the mountains away from the coast.
