I have always said that the engineer who designed the console cover for the pre 2021 Model Y and Model 3, Should be banished to extinction island for life.
Lay something on it… it opens
Accelerate too fast... it opens
Go around the corner… it opens
Read heavy… it opens
Try to close it… it opens
Try to slam it… it opens
Finally I found a simple solution. Velcro squares.
Place a small tab of Velcro on the left side. There is no way to put a piece on the right side thanks to the engineering. But a piece on the left side works just fine. Counter it with a piece of the Velcro on the console door.
Surprise, now the damn thing opens when I open it and closes when I close it And it didn't take an engineer to figure it out. Additionally it's, it's no longer a safety distraction when it opens while driving.
You can use the remaining Velcro or black electrical tapeto cover up If the sharp edges on the driver and passenger doors as well.
