Went to take delivery of my Model Y SR 7 Seater. After waiting for them to bring it out I was informed that the car won't charge and is in need of a complete battery replacement. My local delivery center handled this with empathy and we could tell they felt bad. They don't know when a new pack would be available and delivered. Since I can't purchase the SR anymore I have two choices wait for an unknown amount of time for a new pack and hope this isn't a precursor to a future lemon, or purchase a discounted demo long range that is similar but missing the tow hitch and is significantly more expensive. I am glad our delivery center was transparent and pleased at how well this situation was handled. It isn't their fault the SR was pulled and they definitely can't control the availability of batteries (Apparently this is very rare). They sent me home in a demo performance Model Y and that put a smile on my face. We already have a long-range Model X and the SR Model Y was replacing a Model 3 SR+ as our second city commute vehicle that we could fit our 4 kids 5 and under in for short drives or when one of us is gone. That makes it hard to justify the additional price for the long range Model Y. All things considereded I am fortunate to live in a city with an amazing delivery/service center. My wife and I felt like they genuinely cared. We will see what tomorrow brings.
