Model Y Last Minute Delivery Delays?

I'm excited to be getting my Model Y soon, but my delivery has been pushed out and delayed twice now. Has anyone experienced similar? My timeline:

  • 6/19/2020: VIN Assigned, scheduled delivery 6/21/2020 in Costa Mesa, CA. Setup payment later that day.
  • 6/21/2020: Received a call first thing in the morning saying the vehicle is still at the factory and hasn't left. ETA showing 6/22, delivery re-scheduled for 6/23.
  • 6/22/2020: Received another call stating that the car is at an "offsite location" and has been assigned to a truck. "It will for sure be here by Friday." Delivery re-scheduled again for 6/26/2020.

My car is a LR AWD (White/Black, 20" wheels, 13xxx VIN). 2 years ago, the M3's were getting their deliveries delayed last minute left/right but I'm not hearing it as much with the MY. Curious if anyone has had a recent experience and if they're delivery has been delayed more than 3 times. Also, what is an "offsite location"...yesterday they said it was outside the factory?

I'm guessing your delivery center is Costa Mesa? I hear they have a huge offsite lot where stuff is staged.

And yes, others have posted getting last minute delays.

Yes, Costa Mesa. I just hope that offsite location isn't a body shop...

It's not. It's just a regular office building parking structure. I picked it mine up yesterday. There was one guy there doing some minor detailing work with some of the cars, but it's just used as a location for delivery for social distancing purposes since the Pullman location is too small.

Similar thing happened to us. Delivery supposed to be scheduled for tomorrow 6-30. Vin assigned 6-27, Vin disappeared 6-28. Delivery Date disappeared 6-29. Called them and they said the car didn't make it out of the factory and will need to wait for another notice within the week to reschedule. Also in Costa Mesa.

Do you still have the VIN assigned? Or is it completely gone from your account (and source code)? If the VIN is gone, unfortunately, you're back to square 1 with waiting on a VIN. If the VIN is still assigned, it's likely in the motions of being shipped down from Fremont.

Totally gone from source code as well. I doubt we will hear from the delivery specialist within 1 week like she stated.

I am currently experiencing a similar situation. One VIN was assigned, I added insurance based on that VIN. I received no word from Tesla representative. I just had a second request for insurance on the car. Then I noticed on the agreement that there was a different VIN. Again, I had to find that out on my own. So I changed insurance to cover that new VIN. I asked about the original VIN. The car associated with that VIN was "not salable" - yes back in "production hell."

The car was eventually shipped from Fremont to Paramus, NJ. Then I learn that the car needs a new charging port and they have no ETA when they will have that part in NJ. There seems to be a lack of quality control at the factory. They leave it to the service center to review the new vehicle and find out what's wrong. Tomorrow will be one week since I heard about the charge port problem. None of my messages during the past six days have been answered. I will see what tomorrow brings.

Got it. I wouldn't be surprised if you got matched with a VIN in the next few days. Irvine's staging lot holds several hundred cars and supplies the delivery centers nearby. If someone cancels or defers, you'll likely get a call.

So... I called them Tuesday morning asking yet again why my VIN and appt date disappeared and she said because we didn't reply to any emails / texts. Funny thing is none of those things mentioned a call to action at the end so I told her that. She said normally the texts come with something to reply in the end, but don't know why ours didn't. She spoke with her manager to see if they can assign a car to me faster. She called me back within 20 minutes and said there's a car coming from Santa Barbara right now and said we can pick it up at 7PM.

A little unreal to believe but not surprising cause I know they are trying to push deliveries but I was able to pick up the car yesterday at the Irvine Express Lot around 7PM! :) It was hard to inspect it since it was in a parking structure, but it took us 2 hours and didn't find any major, major issues. The only main issue was that the back seats wouldn't fold down unless if you pull the switch in a certain order.

Overall, I'm very excited and happy I got the car in the end!

Congrats!! And, the response you got is the reason why I feel like I need a break from Tesla. The, "we're always right" attitude is annoying and getting old. The texts didn't have an action - they need to own up, apologize, and move on instead of justifying. My charging cable didn't work and I troubleshooted extensively (you should check yours, btw). I took it in and they claimed I was plugging it in wrong. They didn't believe me until they plugged it in themselves.
