The Model 3 and Y rear motors are permanent magnet motors, which I understand are not able to produce the level of static torque possible as with the induction motors on the rear axle of Model S and X. Therefore, they can't “wind-up” the rear axle which is what provides the acceleration improvement in Launch Mode. The different rear motors is also likely why many say the 3 and Y don’t have the initial “punch” you get with an S/X.
The 3/Y front motors are induction motors but, like any front wheel drive car, the front tires have reduced vertical load during acceleration and so have reduced traction limits. The acceleration benefit using only a front motor “wind-up” would be minor before the front tires unload and just spin.
Anyway, that’s my take on it. I could be wrong. I don’t expect Model 3 or Y to ever get a Launch Mode.
