Model Y LR tows a teardrop trailer--about 200 miles of range in summer

We have only had our 2022 Model Y LR a few weeks, but have been testing it with a used Colorado Teardrop trailer, about 1,000 lb empty weight. In two different trips of about 90-135 miles with about 1,000 feet of elevation gain going one way and 1,000 coming back, we were able to get about an estimated 205 miles of full range towing this teardrop. This means that between say 20%-90% charge, the available range between charges might only be roughly 150ish miles, but that is enough to enable us to travel here in SW Colorado along several routes with superchargers. Obviously, in winter, this would likely get more difficult...we plan to test this loaded up for camping soon...more later.

I only tow my 3500# ski boat short distances to the lake (about 12 miles mainly on a freeway and expressway. What I see is probably a 45% drop in range. That said, I have a MB GLK250 (diesel) SUV that is about the same size, weight (diesels are heavy), etc., and my fuel economy drops about 45% when I tow the boat. The difference is the GLK250 has a good 600+ mile range on a tank of diesel (40mph) while the MY has wishful 330. When I do my 25 mile round trip towing, I usually use 22-25%. I'm not speeding or taking people off the line at a light while towing. Granted, most people are not towing a 3500# trailer with a MY and I love towing with it (even better than the diesel). But I would not be able to tow the boat out to the Sacramento Delta from the San Jose area and back on one charge (about 80 miles each way) based on what I see on my short trips.

Here’s a pic of our setup. We did a long trip this last summer with it. Olympia National Park, Jasper, Banff. I’ve also included pics showing average Wh/mi giving you an idea how we did.

How do you guys charge up? Superchargers typically don't have a cable long enough for you to charge without unhitching first, which would be kind of a PITA.
Great question. It takes us about two minutes to unhook and the same to hook back up. At some Superchargers there are pull in stalls available and we use those. There are also times we can get to the stalls by either pulling up along the end or around on the back side of the row.
