We traded the Model 3 and took delivery of a red LR AWD Model Y with 20” wheels in Tampa Bay. Sharing a handful of immediate observations in case it will help others considering a similar trade.

The condition of the car was perfect at delivery. The specialist pointed out a small black piece of window trim that was slightly misaligned but I couldn’t even see it. They ordered the part. I've since noticed that the rear lift gate does not fully lock every time. Mobile ranger is scheduled to make adjustments on both issues.

The car is substantially larger as reported by others. This is a good thing - the driving visibility is better, rear seat areas much larger, and baggage areas are larger as well. Big improvement in all these areas.

The electric rear hatch is awesome. Golf clubs fit better in the back. Wireless phone charger works great.

Have to admit I was thrilled by unexpected improvements in road noise and ride quality. Not sure if it’s the wider Goodyear tires or something else but the car seems a little quieter at highway speeds. Most impressively the suspension has been softened a bit. I would rate it somewhere between the Model 3 and a Lexus RX 350. Its a more comfortable ride overall.

Overall handling is very similar to the 3. At first it seemed just a touch looser in steering, hardly noticeable but a little different than the model three go-kart effect, but after 200 miles and a few adjustments I'm now sensing very little difference.

The only downside was the lowball trade offer from Tesla. $41,500 on a car that was $64,000 just a year and a half ago, $11,500 of which was options that have actually increased in value during that time. The easy-button trade experience was nice, just be ready to take the hit or sell the 3 on your own. The pain was softened a bit when you factor in the $7500 tax credit we enjoyed on the model three.

Bottom line IMHO is go for it! Very happy camper here.

Thanks for the info, OP. I am curious, which trim 3 did you have, and what kind of tires/wheels were on it?

(My 3 is a Performance 3 with PUP, but I put on Tsportline 18" wheels with the stock Michelin Pilot Sport 4S summer tires).

I recently test drove an AWD Y with 20" inductions, and ride and noise seemed almost identical between it and my 3. I guess that's a good show by the Y given the bigger wheels. The Y did feel a little more ponderous; not surprising given the extra size and weight, but not what I was hoping for. It wasn't so much that I couldn't get used to it though.

I did the same thing as you inc. color but Tesla was fair on my trade in offer I think (39k for an FSD SR+ with 19” rims..

I agree with all of your points but I feel like the car deals heavier, not slower.. but like there is more gravity in the accelerator pedal or something.
