Get socks.
Sorry I realise this isn't helpful if you don't already know about them! Snow socks, auto socks, tyre socks or textile chains, e.g.

Pros:

easy to fit

safe for your body work/suspension vs loose chains and in low clearance situations

available in nz

Cons:

Not as long lasting as traditional chains. But in NZ chains are mostly used very lightly so this is probably not an issue, and if you lived in one of the very few places where you need chains all the time, you'd already know about these! Also, the Tesla-recommended low-profile chains are also going to be fairly short-lived compared with heavy chains.

If you're just talking about having them in the boot for the odd chain day on the ski field access road or the crown range, I'd 100% go with socks.
