Alright everyone, so yesterday I visited Fremont and they told me "car was still in PRE_PRODUCTION!!! and should have it by the end of the month"... So I left very sad and frustrated as usual. HOWEVER, later in the evening, got the email to finalize the payment, signed some papers and Delivery appointment appeared later around 10 pm SCHEDULED FOR TOMORROW DROP OFF!!!! WHATTTT?! Cant even believe it is real, but I guess watch for your EDD getting really narrow ranged and this should follow afterwards even if SA/SC keep saying "the recorded message over and over and over"...
Another update, I just called and bothered them until I reached someone at Colma - was told they don't do Fremont deliveries any more, and it will be dropped off at my address, will have first 100 miles to report any issues and submit a ticket to fix it through Tesla app. The papers will be in the car as well which will magically unlock with my phone! He actually was nice enough to change me to TODAY's DELIVERY!!! HIP HIP HOORAY!!! MY MY here we come!!!

Update: Just heard back from Temecula SC

"Based on factory estimates, we are expecting your car to be delivered to our location on 6/26-6/27. These dates are estimates and are subject to flex in either direction. We are almost there! We are very excited to get you into your Model Y!"

So basically they have no idea....hahahahaha...kill me now!
This was killing me too and not certain to the date if they really don’t know or just have learned to repeat the standard message. In the end, I think you are really close despite all they say or don’t say really 😂😂😂

They do have an internal tool that displays those dates -- I've seen it with my own eyes (and I posted a screenshot the other day). The problem is those dates change just as often as our online dates do. If you recall, "the tool" showed me in production on 6/19. Now I'm not sure if that means enter production or finish production but if it's the former, I don't think it takes longer that 4 days to make a car which means it should be done. Or, more likely, it didn't actually enter production on the 19th. :(

Absolutely. I’ve had the same screen shots shared with me, and yes, even their internal dates are ever changing.. Which, in my mind, seems to verify that they do have different priorities based on orders and how they are equipped.

I think their production algorithm takes all of this into account: order date, config, location, etc. For example, let's say there's someone who's ordered my exact config after me and is located in Denver. Sure, they could get the car to me now because I waited longer. Or they could ship it to Denver now and put me off till the last few days because they know they can get it to me within 24 hours while a Denver shipment will require at least a few days. This way they get revenue from both cars instead of just mine. Sucks...but I guess I understand it.

For the lucky ones who have received VINs and the cars already - if you are doing 3rd party financing how does that work with delivery? Your bank wires money to tesla prior to delivery? you walk into delivery appointment with check? just trying to figure out the financing in hopes of getting a VIN soon!

From what I know you can play the game with cashier checks etc, or you can have your SA do a rate-match and just go through Tesla financing (that's what I'm planning to do).

I'm still one of the unlucky ones but I did talk to a delivery specialist at length about this. The short answer: it depends on your bank. Not all banks have the "appropriate" relationship with Tesla where they can wire money. In fact I was under the impression that most banks/CUs will snail mail a check. I originally was going to use a 3rd party (Patelco CU) and they were planning on mailing a check to Tesla Finance. They did say they have an option where they can pre-cut you a check (i.e. before you get a VIN) and then you just cash that and then electronically submit the full payment. From what I gathered from the Tesla delivery specialist, they will not deliver your car unless the financed portion is already paid. If you're doing a down payment, that's when you can either submit online via ACH or hand them a cashier's check. The problem with the latter is that they're doing contactless delivery so I'm not sure how/when you would hand them a check.

Because of all this, I decided about 3 weeks ago to just go with Tesla financing to make the process smoother. I'm putting down $30k and financing the rest through Tesla (US Bank). I have $30k sitting in my checking account right now and I will ACH transfer that when/if I get a VIN and the ability to do so.
