Model 3 is coming! Sales to start imminently. The first big batch of Tesla Model 3 (of roughly 1,400 cars) delivered to Europe spreads through to Tesla‘s biggest markets. Yesterday, we noticed the first new Model 3 registrations in Norway, since late January when 17 were registered. Now, it seems that about 45 were registered within 1-2...

Will let someone from Norway chime in here about actual prices they can negotiate, but here are the base MSRP prices (before taxes, fees, options and incentives) in Norway for the current Top 3 electric vehicle brands, plus Tesla

BMW i3 = 320,000 NOK = $36,884 USD
BMW i3s = 355,900 NOK = $41,022 USD

Nissan Leaf (40kWh) = 281,900 NOK = $32,493 USD

Volkswagen eGolf = 335,400 NOK = $38,659 USD

Tesla Model 3 Dual Motor = 454,700 NOK = $52,410 USD
Tesla Model 3 Performance = 546,000 NOK = $62,933 USD

Deliveries did start yesterday for customers.

Some fossile prices compared to model 3:
2019 Volvo V60: Base price is 471.000
2019 BMW 330i sedan base price: 519.000
2019 BMW M2 base price 1 million!
2019 BMW M4 base price 1.1 million! (so you can buy 2 x model 3 performance here for that price)
2019 BMW M5 base price 1.9 million!

Sounds like the M4 won't sell much if you can get 2 model 3 performance for the same price :) Also, petro costs from the M4 and the other tax incentives in your country will make the model 3 a winner!

Wow. The M3 performance looks like a bargain in Norway.

And the M3 Long range looks like a good value. Especially when you factor in the prices for electricity vs gasoline.

Nothing even comes close to delivering Model 3 performance, LR or P, at the price point.
Electricity here is around $0.13/kWh and gas is $6.50/gallon, so running cost on perf. gas cars is astronomical.
And then there is insurance...

The costs are pretty big. Consider the Model 3 performance should outrun a BMW M3/M4 from 0-100km it's a bargain. Now, after that, who knows :) How much is that going to save you a year based on your mileage?

If this isn't the death sentence for fossil fuel cars in Norway I don't know what else it would be. Gonna be fun watching how this plays out, especially with the Model 3 in the picture.

Not to venture too OT, but anyone have a link to Norways petroleum consumption by transportation sector over time? The EV adoption rate has got to be making a decent sized dent in oil use.

Gasoline consumption in Norway was on average 40 million barrels a day from 1985 to 2005.
In 2017 it was 19 million barrels a day.

The cost of electricity is expected to rise the coming years because of a few large cables beeing built to Germany, England and Scotland. Norwegian electric production is 96% hydroelectric and most of it is availiable on demand. We are selling it to mainland europe as green emissions free electicity. :D (we also export almost as much natural gas as Russia.. but let´s not talk about that..)

Now.. Model 3.
There are 103 Tesla Model 3s registered in Norway to date. 45 of which have been registered today.
62 Performance models, 39 Long Range and 2 US Imports.

There are several hundreds at the dock in Drammen and around 750 cars on a ship headed to the west coast. Expected to unload first few hundred cars in Stavanger tomorrow.
