MS 90D Design Studio - Premium Seats

Looks like Tesla is now offering premium seats (like ones in the Model X) when you select a 90D.

Premium Upgrade Package is now $3,500 from $3,000 for the 90D variant.

I have a confirmed 90D on order with the Next Gen seats and PUP that is in the production queue.

I plan to contact my delivery specialist to determine my options to change to the premium seats.

The caveat about ventilation only being available with Black or Tan Premium Seats appears to have been removed as well. Design Studio image still doesn't show perforation on the white seats but description seems to suggest even white premium seats + PUP should get ventilation now..?

What I see at Order a Tesla Model S | Tesla is that no matter what battery pack you chose, besides the textile seats you can now chose "Black Leather Seats" (which look like the seats in my Dec 2013 S) or "Next Generation Seats" in Grey, Tan, or Black.

The Tan and Black Next Gen seats say "Recommended" underneath them. I assume they are different in some way than the Grey Next Gen seats. The Premium Upgrades Package option shows "Ventilated front seats...when paired with Tesla Premium Seats".

Tesla needs to make their nomenclature consistent. Are "Premium Seats" the same as "Next Generation"?

No. The Premium seats are not the same as Next Gen. They are the Model X seats. They are softer and more comfortable than the Next Gens imo. The ventilation is just a bonus. As demonstrated by Bjorn Nyland on YouTube, they are really seats that suck air rather than blow air to cool them.

Highly recommend these seats after owning a model S with Next Gens previously.

So how do you think it works for those of us with a 90D Model A that is supposed to be in production in a couple weeks. Is that a $500 charge to change (or however much the penalty is) if you want to upgrade from Next Gen to Premium seats? Or will the car just be made with Premium seats automatically?

And do all premium seats have that single pillar design and the headrests that automatically raise/lower when seat is moved?

I have a 90D that's in the production queue with the next gen seats.

I asked my DS if I can get the premium seats by paying the $500 change fee but was told my Model S will finish production in the next 2 weeks and that they would need a minimum of 3 weeks in order to make the change.

So looks like I'm getting the next gens...

If they're discontinuing the next gen then my guess is it will likely depend on what they have left in stock as to what they install. If it's a separate option like the glass roof you will definitely have to pay the $500. You may be able to pay the $500 to change them even if they were planning on putting next gens in.

Your DeS is the best bet for an actionable answer.

Cool. I just sent her an email.

They aren't discontinuing the next ten seats. They are still offering them on the 60 and 75 variants. So if you ordered the 90D with next gen seats than that's probably what you'll get.

When I originally placed an order for a P90D with Next Gen, I was auto upgraded to the premium seats at no charge.
