Tesla and SpaceX Chief Executive Elon Musk made his Saturday Night Live debut, showing his comedic acting chops in several sketches.
Musk played a doctor in a sketch about spoofing Gen Z slang in a medical soap opera setting. In a scene about an Icelandic influencer’s television show, Musk played a producer who professes his love for the quirky TV star. On the recurring Weekend Update segment, Musk played a cryptocurrency expert fielding the same question over and over – “So, what is Dogecoin?”
Musk has been vocal supporter of the Dogecoin. In the spirit of SNL, he admitted that the currency started as a joke. “It’s the future of currency,” Musk said. “It’s an unstoppable financial currency that’s going to take over the world,” Musk said. “It’s a cryptocurrency you can trade for conventional money.”
Cast member Michael Che then asked, “So, it’s a hustle?”
“Yeah, it’s a hustle,” Musk replied with a laugh.
The value of Doge dropped sharply after those comments, nearly 30% early Sunday morning.
Another notable part of the show was Musk’s admission that he has Asperger Syndrome, a disorder that can make it difficult for people to engage in social interactions and nonverbal communication.
