Tesla delivery day is an exciting event in itself, but imagine if Elon Musk showed up to hand over the car. A new Model 3 owner had that experience over the weekend. Musk re-tweeted the owner Devin Scott, who shared photos of the delivery. We tried out a new delivery system using an enclosed trailer...

Most expensive way there is to deliver a car. Not a cost-effective or eco-friendly method.

This is the sort of thing that Mr Musk should be doing, in my opinion. Being positive, getting the cars to people, getting the cars made, and leaving to IR dealing with all the A******s out there who pride themselves on being so clever in shorting a company with accelerating revenue.

Now if we can get Elon to work with Amazon, then all cars will be delivered by Drone.

The direct delivery just doesn't make sense. The cost, time, people involved would be huge. Probably a long time friend/investor of Elon's. In that case more power to them.

Not sure how that is eco friendly. The plastic wrap vs individually driving an ICE truck from factory to house.

Really? It's not more cost effective or eco friendly than shipping the car around multiple times and leaving it parked potentially for days before pickup? Then you have a dirty or damaged car that needs detailing or repair? Think about the interest alone, nevermind the cash flow problems.

Not sure why others claim it is not eco-friendly or "most expensive".
It's relatively the same amount of energy expended to get a product from the factory to its final destination - regardless of mode of transport. In the grand scheme of things the amount of "wasted" energy and/or pollution generated during transport is erased by the product in relatively short order by the products intended use.

It's a great PR stunt, but driving individual cars from the factory is not eco or cost effective. (other than maybe a 30 min - 1hr radius)

Look at his post history. Clearly has an axe to grind with Tesla, could be simply a shill.

It should be obvious to anyone that got past a 5th grade education that total truck miles are reduced by point to point delivery instead of bouncing around the country.

You know computers exist right? Plan deliveries for a truckload which are all near the same city. The computer can even tell you what order you need to load the cars in for delivery order.

This makes a lot of sense for deliveries within closish range of Fremont. No storage at hubs, delivery centers, etc. There are a lot of Tesla customers that fall within a few hours radius.

However I'm not sure it makes sense outside that unless this is some sort of trailer you can readily stack onto rail cars and unstack at the other end. A fleet of reusable delivery containers? There are no details to say much about that one way or the other. Short of that I get the impression this is mostly PR fluff, or at most an interesting local story for CA.

I think it would have been even more impressive and fun if it was delivered in a Tesla Semi prototype.

I wish mine had been delivered by him so I'd have a chance to beg him personally to stop posting to twitter. ;)

Translation - Musk tags along on ONE successful delivery in order to distract attention from the thousands of delayed deliveries this weekend due to the fact that this tech company can't handle billing software.

Maybe he should have just stayed home, that should fix things.

Maybe he should have stopped in to offer more lettuce to the team of gerbils working their contract services.
