Do you have to run staggered tires or can I run 4- 275/45/20 tires and not the 265/45/20 combos ? Why / why not ? On my model x ?
Don't forget, the wheels are different too. You will need to replace at least two of them. Generally whenever you deviate from the manufacturers spec, it degrades performance in some way. What are you trying to accomplish?

The front tires are narrower than the rear ones. When you install 275, which is wider than 265 in the front, as long as they don't rub on anything, especially when you turn your steering wheel all the way either way, then I think that is fine.

The advantage of having the same 4 tires is convenience. Only need to remember one single size. Some stores would give discounts if you buy 4 same tires instead of fewer...

I got no answers, only questions:

1) Is this to allow rotation? Is the rim offset matching front to back?
2) How are you handling tire circumferance matching? Have you decided they don't need to match (probably don't), or are you planning on changing aspect ratio to get back to old tire heights?

You do not need to run staggered. However, the factory rear wheel will not fit the front.

You can either:
  1. Buy new wheels with correct offsets so you can rotate all four corners
  2. Buy a set of OEM fronts to be used in the rear
  3. Buy a set of spacers to bolt in the front so you can run rears in the front
I run square for summer and winter, no problem. Here are four OEM 20" fronts:

Just verifying. But are 2023 MX's still coming staggered?
Yes, LR or Plaid both run OEM staggered setups. 9" wide rims in the front, 10" wide in the rears. 🍑
