My wife and I were recently converting an old 401k to IRAs. I have use Financial Engines - Help for your 401(k) retirement planning for 15+ years to help with my balanced investments so I was using it to help determine what low (fee) cost mutual funds we should move to.

It picked a couple and one of them was:
Fidelity Spartan Extended Market Index Fund Fidelity Advantage Class (MUTF:FSEVX)
https://www.google.com/finance?q=MUTF:FSEVX

By chance it has TSLA in it (which obviously was not a criteria I was looking at nor does FinEng):

Just out of novelty have others found some mutual funds that have TSLA?

You can see the major holds / institutions that have it via: http://finance.yahoo.com/q/mh?s=tsla+Major+Holders

Be careful not to confuse reported holdings with current holdings. These funds held the stock when they issued their report but there is no way to know if they still own TSLA.

I guess I have to learn how to copy and paste in this forum as my pasted data did not post. Here is a link to the yahoo finance site that lists the largest TSLA holdings amongst mutual funds:
http://finance.yahoo.com/q/mh?s=TSLA+Major+Holders

This adds a little to the discussion. Here are the mutual fund holders most concentrated in TSLA, sorted by the fraction of the portfolio held in TSLA (<=1%). Note the filing dates. Positions may not be current.

Sorry I missed your post. Thanks much for that list. Very interesting. One can google search on the fund name and check finance google to see if it is still in their top 10 at least.

i.e.
AllianzGI Technology Fund Institutional Class (MUTF: DRGTX)

Wells Fargo Advantage Specialized Technology Fund Class A (MUTF:WFSTX)

Unless you have small sums to invest, it's a poor idea to invest in a particular company indirectly. If you believe in Tesla Motor's future, buy TSLA. Any other approach simply incurs unnecessary management fees and leaves you exposed to someone else's judgment as to whether to keep you invested in Tesla.

Agreed, but many 401Ks only allow investment in funds--and often the choice of funds is very limited.

Aside: I don't buy individual stocks [anymore].

My long term investment strategy is low fee mutual funds.

I've used Financial Engines - Help for your 401(k) retirement planning for 15+ years. Back when it was free.

One of best books I found on fees an investing: http://www.theintelligentportfolio.com/book.html .
Buying the book actually comes with 1 years subscription to that site ( http://www.theintelligentportfolio.com/poa.html ).

Financial Engines help me choose investments across all our IRAs, 401(k)s, other taxable investmetns (my wife's and mine).
It also has some basic research info options. Example for the fund in my first post.
