We’re looking to get a Model X and our current insurance company quoted $1,700 for a 6-month premium? Is anyone else in Texas getting better rates?

Yes, try approachquote.com. They have helped many owners in Texas with auto insurance specifically for Teslas.
I paid $928 for 6 months with Nationwide for a new Model X, and that's with the liability bumped up to $300k. That did include the multi-car discount and probably some other discounts for having other policies, but I doubt it would be anywhere near $1700 without those.

Some will insure but really don't want to - Farmers still quotes me $1500 for 6 months with $1k deductibles on a 2015 Model S.
The rest is just a numbers game - for my Feb renewal, State Farm had lowered their HOU rates and came out the winner over Progressive and GEICO.

Always hard to compare one person's rate against another. Driving record, age, location, marital status, claims history, multi-car, etc. All effect the premium.

Exactly. I pay $489 for 6 months’ coverage through State Farm. Multi-car, home, good driver.
Progressive is far cheaper than any others for my MS. But this is varies so much person to person. Just get several quotes.
Do they have tesla insurance in Texas yet? I got my quote of $2200+ for 6 months from Geico. Tesla quoted me just $600+ for 6 months for higher coverage.
