Now what? Wait 2+ weeks for a new roof and buy a repaired car? Unmatch the VIN and maybe wait 3+ months (with the FSD price increase)? Change order to buy FSD now and lose the $3k MD excise tax refund if they vote to find it again?

Any pics? I’m curious how badly the glass damaged. Do you know what damaged it? How’s the rest of the car? If it looks great otherwise, I’d personally wait the two weeks and enjoy.

It’s a bummer no way you cut it.

Was it a result of transport? If so it is quite common that cars get damaged during transport. Usually they just repair them and sell them as new and nobody is the wiser. Be thankful they told you the reason, let them fix it, and take delivery of a repaired car. Inspect the glass and ensure the seals look good cosmetically and you will have a car you will love for years to come. Trust me on that one!

It's laminated. I went ahead and asked them to release the VIN. I'm not really in a hurry. Maybe it will just be the 4-8 weeks the website lists. Better chance I'll get the compressor cover and other improvements.

We had to turn down our first Model 3 because of shipping damage. This was at a time when there was an 8 week wait and Tesla expedited the order and had it to us in 13 days.

Assuming there is no material defect in the glass itself, it would take extreme force to break or damage it. If it was damaged in transport, something might have dropped on it. I'd be concerned with other, hidden structural damage. You are wise to release that VIN. Tesla should put you at the front of the line for a replacement.

Flying rock from a highway transport couldn't have put a little chip in the roof glass and then a crack splintered? I recall seeing a video from Bjorn where he was driving a test model 3 with a roof rack, and the roof rack mount points caused a tiny little chip which splintered across the entire roof.

My old VIN is now gone from the web page, but still in the source and MVPA. Anyone know how it goes from here? A new VIN shows up just like before maybe?

Wishful thinking on the Maryland excise tax. I’ve given up hope and resigned to the fact that I’m paying full price for my Y.

In many states, new cars can be repaired up to a certain % of the cost without telling the buyer. In most cases, glass or bolt on parts (wheels for example) don't even count towards that %.

Dealers have big back lots to do these sorts of repairs. This is the problem with direct car allocation.

Glass is funny - a tiny chip in the wrong place can really cause problems.

Do hope you new one comes in perfect!

I had the same issue - for some reason even after the new VIN showed up (and new MVPA) there were still traces of the old VIN, e.g. when you clicked on the Tesla Insurance link.

Can you get the car now or do you have to wait for 2 weeks?

Can you see the real damage and possibly the cause of it.

Note: I think I would take the car and get if fix when the part will arrive.

I had my roof glass replaced on my Model 3 because of a small crack may be caused by a truck.

The SC was not too far from my home, I received a $200 Uber voucher and I have my car back by the end of the day.

Well, my VIN disappeared from my page source today (MVPA link still has it), so at least things are changing. Maybe I'll get lucky and get a new VIN soon.

Just saw the new VIN in the page source (12xxx), and the MYPA showed back up. Unlike my previous 57xx VIN, this one has the "E" for AWD like it should. Still hoping for the 980 motor, although I'm sure the 990 works just fine.
