I live near Boise, Idaho so the nearest official Tesla service center is about 400 miles or a 7 hour drive away. I've paid for FSD when I purchased our AWD M3 in January 2019. I've been patiently waiting for HW3.0, but thought I would have to drive to a service center to get it done.
Anyway, I received a text from Tesla Service saying "an outstanding service action that involves inspecting and possibly replacing charge port pins". I scheduled the service using the Tesla app, and also asked about possibly getting HW3. I was told they would do HW3 if the boards were available, but could not guarantee it would happen.
I spoke with Will on the phone, he was very knowledgeable and professional. The don't have an actual service center in Boise, but instead work out a private repair shop. On the day of the appointment I spoke with Colin and they were able to shuttle me to a nearby golf course (I had planned on using Uber, but they had a light day, and with the virus I wasn't sure how dependable Uber would be).
The service, including installing HW3, was done in less time than they had quoted, and they were even able to deliver my car to the golf course. It was 100% hassle free and very professional every step of the way. It was much better service than I have received at a traditional car dealership.
I really feel Tesla has stepped up their game with service work. This was my first experience and it was awesome!! Will and Colin in the Boise area are great to work with.
Hope this helps anyone who is apprehensive about service work with no local official Tesla service center nearby,
