Tesla Experience

The latter part of 2015 (August I believe) we purchased and had installed 22 solar panels from Triple Line Solar. The installation more than covered our annual electric usage. We are still attached to the grid and do not have a battery backup. In December 2015, we purchased and received a Tesla 5-seat model 90D.

There are wonderful things on that December night

By the family celebrating Christmas:

When all of a sudden our Tesla Model 90D arrived.

That made our blood run hot;

The neighborhood had seen queer sights,

But the queerest they ever did see

Was that night

When the 5-seater 90D arrived.

Paraphrased from Robert Service's "The Cremation of Sam McGee"

This is our only car.

One indirect benefit of a BEV is not having to stand in line at gas stations to fill up and no longer needing to use Costco for cheap fuel. As an aside, Costco discontinued selling soda fountain syrup. We therefore cancelled our executive Costco card saving the $120 annual fee.

Buying the car and solar panels reaped us several tax benefits and therefore reduced to actual cost of the car.

Every year we "true up" on our SDGE electric bill which results in either a credit or a nominal cost <$60. We drive ~6k mi per year. The supercharger network comes in handy. We've taken trips to Burbank, CA and the Phoenix, AZ area at no recharging expense. Superchargers are conveniently located near restaurants and restrooms.

Driving over the mountains between San Diego showed no strain on the motors and one time in the light snow the car handled well.

We did have some warranty service and had to replace the 12V battery at a co pay of $200.

Love the car.
