My Model-X resale value just dropped significantly

I placed an order for a Model X on 10/1/16 with final confirmation on 10/8/16 and ordered the autopilot features as part of my options selection. I contacted my representative today and they told me that my car would be produced as-is. If I want the new features, I'll have to forfeit my $2,500 deposit, put down a new $2,500, and get back in line.

You are getting more bad information... If you car hasn't been made yet it will include the new AP hardware. There is some discussion that if you paid for AP ($3k) you will get that version of AP, with an option to upgrade to Enhanced AP for an additional $2k, or to full autonomy for an additional $5k.
 
Another data point as of today at least, is that it doesn't look like their are any deep discounts or anything on inventory Model Xs. They are still all about the same price, slightly discounted for miles/age as always. They do denote "Autopilot 1 Hardware" specifically now on their individual pages - that is good to be clear at least.

Will be interesting to see if this holds in a few months, but all current inventories should be gone by then. Demand/market will still exist for current MXs as well with AP1, most people do like to drive and realize AP2 won't be the last iteration of improvements.

I did a comp of my car to the inventory and a bit surprised the price of slightly less featured cars on the inventory are about the same as my cost. Like one I checked did not include high amp and towing but was just about $400 lower than mine. But mine does have much more miles.
In any case, I don't plan to replace my car for quite a few years. So I am mostly at peace ;)
 
Initially I was disappointed by the lack of retrofit for my current MX, just like the 28,000$ fee in Canada for 100KW upgrade. I did lease the car though and I like driving it without AP for the most part because I drive fast and AP will not allow that. AP has been great in stop and go city traffic and at times on the highway but not as much fun as stomping the pedal and jetting around. Full AP level 5 will be handy but I am content to wait 2.5 years for the end of my lease since AP 2.0 will not be available for the first year of that and also I expect 120 KW batteries with better range and 0-60 of 2.5 for the next gen of MX anyways.

She told me it was a completely different build and so it wouldn't be eligible for upgrade. I'm seriously hoping she's misinformed. I've been speaking with the sales rep instead of the delivery specialist, so I'll get it all reconfirmed.

So maybe Elon did you a favor by delaying the P100D retrofit until early next year. Now you can trade-in and get a P100D with AP hardware 2 more reasonably then getting just the 100kWh battery and still not having AP hardware 2.
 
I still don't know how exactly to react to the news. I've only had my Model X for less than a month (and haven't put 1000 miles on her yet). As someone who prefers to drive than be driven, the only real reason I decided to order autopilot was to future proof my car to a degree. I'm not sure I would have gambled $8K for a feature I might not take full advantage of, but $2.5K seemed a reasonable bet.

Having placed my order at the beginning of June, before the news broke of the AP death, it never dawned on me that the initial hardware might not eventually be capable of full autonomy...I thought it was going to be purely a software and regulatory challenge. Since then I started wondering if a hardware change was coming (hoping that, if so, it would be included when my model finally went into production). Of course, I took delivery of my X last month, so I'm SOL like many of you....disappointed that the 8.0 update didn't flesh out more capability.

The one thing I'd really like to know is if the autopark feature in our present system will eventually be able to steer the X into my garage, avoiding brick planters, my parked sports car, and a mid-wall corner that the present system actually aims for...and will not stop without my intervention.

No one can tell you. I wouldn't get my hope up for that kind of functionality with AP1 though.
