She feels like she can't see in her mirrors and won't drive it on any road above 50km/h. It pisses me off so much because she's paying for gas while keeping the car constantly plugged in, and it's such a waste. Can someone offer advice or some type of solution to this because the car has literally just been decorating our garage for the past 6 months! THX!

Good for you, just tell her you will take it so the money isn't wasted.

The mirrors shouldn't be different than on any other car. When she adjusts the seat and mirrors she can't see out of them? There is probably some other reason why she doesn't drive it. I'd ask.

What does she mean by she can't see out of the mirrors? It's no different than any other sedan really. Seeing out the back might be more limited though.

I don't blame her, it's so ugly, worst car ever made. She should take it to a wrecking yard and just have it destroyed

i honestly don't know, i think she might also be scared of the car's power and just uses the mirror thing as an excuse, but yeah she just needs to see that everyone else drives their tesla regularly and it's ridiculous not to.

Tell her that she should either use it or sell it.

Unless $100K decorations are pocket change for her......

Agree. If she truly never drives it and never will or won't allow anyone else to drive it probably best to sell it.

Well, the Model S is a pretty big car. What's your Mom drive now ?
    Maybe that's her concern.

I have a lovely gas-powered car with functioning mirrors I'd love to trade for her Model S since I can't afford one otherwise. I have a young family and I'd prefer to drive them around in the safest car in the world. PM me! ;-)

Maybe you could show her how to turn on the rearview camera even when she is moving forward. Then she might not be as nervous to drive it.

The car can be intimidating for non-technical people. IMHO, I would set everything to as basic/normal a state as possible--eg set everything to how she has it in her gas car. Set climate control on Auto. Put the Navigation map on the top of the 17" screen, and the radio on FM on the bottom and set to her radio station (or whatever she likes). Turn the side mirror reversing thing off so those don't move when she puts it into reverse if she's not used to that. Try and get the driver's seat adjusted better (not sure if she's tall or short, etc)--you may need to do it with her as there's a zillion ways to adjust the seat. Set the headlights to auto--don't have to do anything but get in and drive!

I'd then say if she's comfortable driving it on side streets, then she can drive it that way until she's more used to the car. It is a bit disorienting at first I will admit--no engine noise, super smooth suspension, steering is faster then my previous car, etc. The car does have a lot of power and it comes on quickly, have to get used to pressing the accelerator differently.

And my lord if she's going to use cruise control, tell her about the 1 mph increase versus 5 mph increase when pressing the stick for it. (pressing it one click up gives 1 mph increase, all the way up gives 5 mph increase--scared me have to death when I found that out by accident)

Hope that helps, I don't know anyone who doesn't like the car after getting going with it.....!!
