My Android-based Samsung Galaxy S8+ works most of the time, but it fails to allow the doors to open about twice a week. Cycling Bluetooth or cycling airplane mode fixes it.

There's several threads where there are various work-arounds being tried, the most promising appears to be a specific setting for battery optimization that needs to be turned off for the Tesla app. I just did this on mine, and it's too early to tell whether it fixes the problem 100% or not, but I'll report back after a couple weeks.

The people above this post could you please share how your phone keys are working 100% of the time correctly. How do you have your phones set up for connectivity via app, phone, and car.

When I was with a Tesla service rep this is what he suggested below. I posted it on other threads and has worked for me 90% of the time. What is different with your success.

Make sure ur phone software is up to date.
Check for any updates on tesla app.
Do not leave multiple windows open on your phone.
Have the Tesla app running in the background under settings.
Never close the Tesla app if u can. Obviously some people turn their phone on and off but try to keep the Tesla app always on.
If connectivity is unresponsive with the phone key and your car, do not close tesla app but refresh Bluetooth. Wait 5 seconds before switching Bluetooth back on.

There are occasions that it does not work for me. I either have to recycle Bluetooth or open my trunk in order to open my drivers door (even though I do not have to put anything in the trunk) to gain access to my vehicle.

My M3 hasn't arrived yet.. so nope, net yet.

Then please retract your advise as it implies you’ve had a successful experience using an android phone as a car key with a Tesla Model 3 and that’s not the case.

The app is not used to lock and unlock the car. The phone key works via BLE whether or not the phone or app is active. It is intended to work even if the phone is asleep in your pocket and the app is closed.

So far all indications are that this only approaches 100% success on iPhones, for the most part.

The only concession I made was to ensure that the app could use my phone’s location at all times as per the advice of my delivery specialist. This is on the most recent release of iOS and the Tesla app.

100% success whether or not the app is active.
