is there a way to actually change the name?
Yes, of course. Try changing it to "007".
From the user manual on page 110:
Naming Your Vehicle
To further personalize your Model X, you can name it. The name you give your Model X will appear in the mobile app. To name your Model X, touch the Tesla “T” at the top center of the touchscreen, then touch Name Your Vehicle.
When you save, Name Your Vehicle is replaced by the name you provided. You can touch the name at any time to rename your Model X.
Yes, press the T at the top center of the center console. After it opens to the window that has your car and the version of software, press the upper right corner of the window. This should give you a box to post a name. For fun while you are there, try typing the number 42 and Enter.
there we go .. named her " Duchess"
Do you know what the practical MAX number of characters is? Say you used 15, would that scroll off/be truncated on the display/app?
no idea but wouldn't be hard to find out
i'll take a look when i goto lunch
Any chance you were able to confirm length?
actually i forgot .. sorry But i was able to change it this morning to " Codenameutches and it fits in the app

and it looks like i can't spell so i gotta change it again to duchess
Thanks for the feedback!
So my neighbor names his car "Sue". People asked if it's his wife's name. "No. I'm a lawyer"
See, when you get past a certain age, you get to tell really, really old jokes. Then you get banned.
