Vice President Pence Hosts the First Meeting of the National Space Council

The first meeting of the National Space Council happened today. The overall theme was making America the leader in space. It started with a speech about the theme followed by three segments covering the three areas of significance in space operations.

The first segment was the old school government contractors and NASA: Lockheed-Martin, Boeing, and Orbital ATK. 1:10

The second segment was with commercial contractors: SpaceX (Gwynne Shotwell), Blue Origin, and Sierra Nevada. 1:45

The third segment was with the national security, military and space operations: Various advisors and experts in national security pertaining to space. 2:18

A very good piece pointing out the strengths of SpaceX. It does take the angle that the government isn't as helping as much as it could. So take it as more of an opinion piece over a pure news article.

There is another National Space Council meeting this week. Of note is that one of the FH landed boosters (pictured below) will be on display for the meeting. Also of note is that the Paz launch will have happened that morning. I expect that SpaceX will be a big focus of this meeting. The timing for the meeting has not been posted that I could find.

The White House National Space Council, chaired by Vice President Mike Pence, will conduct its second public meeting on February 21, 2018 at Kennedy Space Center, FL. Details are TBD, but it will follow the same format at the first meeting in October 2017, open to the public, and webcast. The topic will be regulatory reform.
