Navigation- Strange road markings

On the maps in version 5.6 or 5.8 there is an icon which looks like a traffic light When this is activated all sorts of strange markings appears on major roads ie green lines, dotted yellow and dotted red lines

Try as a might I have been unable to find any reference to these markings or what they mean Can someone help me out ?

That is showing you traffic. Green is clear, Yellow is heavy traffic, red is slowed, and black with the red dot is stop and go.

If you go to Google maps and enable traffic on your home computer there is a legend on the lower left corner.

If you want to get rid of that, hit the traffic-light symbol on the right side of the map.
