I think it's been done but need some instructions so there are no mistooks. 30 amps

3 wires vs 4 wires or ? I figure as long as I don't run the dryer I should be OK.

Over my head so here I am looking for some help. Also how many miles per kwh will 30 amps produce.

What kind of outlet is already there, and what size circuit breaker?

14-50 is a great choice for new installations, but it should be wired with #6 wire and a 50a breaker.

Why do you need a 14-50? Just get the adapter for your outlet:
Gen 2 NEMA Adapters

This is the way to go. The correct adapter will limit current to what is safe for the wiring and outlet.

Using a 14-50 adapter requires the correct current to be selected by the user, and no software hiccups when it is updated. That is ok occasionally, but not the way to go for everyday charging.

I recommend purchasing the “Dryer Buddy” to make switching between charging and drying clothes easy and safe. Although it would be best to spend the money to install a dedicated breaker and 240 V outlet for car charging, if practical for your home.

You’re probably better off with something like a Dryer Buddy auto (there are several competing devices like this). A safer and simpler solution for you if you feel like you are in over your head. Maybe cheaper too.

Take a picture of your existing outlet, it will be fine.

The 50 in 14-50 is the number of amps. Since your drier has 30A you cannot change out the plug to a 50A.

As users have mentioned, there exists an adapter, you just need to identify which plug you have. The plug on the charge connector is removable - grab the base of the wire and pull hard on it.

I don't know how to add a picture but the dryer is 10-30 which will be so much better than the 4 miles it charges now.
