I am confused, why start a new thread for something that you already have a thread that covers this.... and you use that thread for exactly these types of posts already! Autonomous Car Progress
Because that thread has 159 pages already and I feel like my posts get buried. That thread has stuff on a lot of AV companies so it is easy for something to get buried in other discussions. There is already a discussion about Zoox. So I thought I would start a new thread where we can discuss this Mobileye video specifically without other topics getting in the way.
this deserves its own thread. too many people think tesla is the only game in town. forgetting model s used mobileye for ap.
I saw a minimum of 3 dangerous situation on this video - First on trafic light second on roundabout they not activate is signal on roundabout when move out very dangerous !!
This video is less impressive than the other videos that mobileye has released, IMO. However, what is special about this video is that it uses HD maps that were fully generated automatically using only data from production BMW and VW cars, and this map covers the entire country of Germany
Wow it's good. I am surprised they don't have a partnership with GM or Ford or someone that wants to jump out in front of tesla.
They do with Ford and they are working with GM still to some extent. They are working with most OEMs to some extent... but for robotaxi and high end consumer ADAS/AV Oems want to do that homegrown and are so slow.... After more OEMs give up on trying to compete they'll resort back to partnering with someone like Mobileye
Some things I noticed Good effort at European roads. Driver has selected a large following distance, people cut into it often. Car often shows incorrect line markings. Often has incorrect speed limits. Bad? 3:55 got close to van turning in front, but slowed enough to avoid it Good 4:15 turned ok on unprotected left, did not have a chance to get between anyone so waited until the end G 5:40 avoided and visualized car door opening Ok 6:25 slow unprotected left, visualized and yielded to car on right at a distance B 10:20 incorrect line markings on left G/B 11:05 merging challenge, marked blocking trucks in red beforehand, but failed to merge quickly missing its moment. Waited for a clear spot safely, then accelerated painfully slowly onto the highway G played in traffic well on 140km/h autobahn G 14:25 merged ok, just ahead of truck to the right 14:35 somewhat abrupt slowing from 130 to 100 to maintain following distance that was not worth the risk of slowing B 14:55 hugging the left side of the road B 15:45 miscategorizing right lane marking and merging into truck's blind spot perhaps assuming truck could not ever merge left. Still, held off just about without risk B 16:35 no need for turn signal, slight weaving B/G 27:40 indicates to merge right when unsafe, waits until car has backed off before merging G 28:30 visualizes van's brake lights G 28:50 visualizes car's turn signal G 30:35 avoids unsafe stopped car B 31:05 stops well back of the line 36:30 weird stop sign & green light. I presume green light trumps stop sign? B 39:25 barely gives parallel parking car enough room despite ample warning of the expected move. Fails to or cannot reverse as a courtesy 41:50 waits patiently for parked ambulance, appears to finally pass (cautiously and somewhat blindly) after several cars behind make the pass. Does not visualize emergency lights 46:15 oddly slow right turn 50:05 did not signal on exiting roundabout (straight) G/B 53:45 slowed but could have moved over for protruding oncoming truck
At 41:00 when it goes under the bridge, would that be phantom breaking? Goes from 45 to 28 real quick. Happens again at 48:35.
I am sure they could. How well it would drive would be the question of course. I assume it would probably be similar to what we see in the video.
Well, I’m pretty sure evnow’s post implied it would be a route that potentially doesn’t have full hd maps, considering it’s a route of their choosing and not MobileEye. That’s the post you responded to.
Ok. I thought @EVNow's post was with HD maps. It does not really make sense to ask about no HD maps since Mobileye always uses HD maps before driving autonomously. In any case, I responded as if it was with HD Maps since that is how Mobileye does it.
What contraption on the roof? AFAIK, Mobileye uses 12 cameras integrated in to the car. This is what Mobileye's autonomous cars look like:
My bad - I was confusing Mobileye with Waymo. Well, competition is a good thing. Tesla is much more advanced, I am sure, when it comes to farts, though.
