Steering wheel is the future, absolutely brilliant!
At low speed each radial movement is amplified so you are never rotating the wheel around. At higher speed, it works more like current wheels do. If you don't "get it", you soon will, literally and figuratively.
Tesla just leaped the steering control into the future, it's what they do.

Tesla offered me $2,000 off the price of the Plaid. I originally ordered the Model S Performance, which they no longer make.

Bummer that there is no more Performance model for a price in between. Seems like you’re now forced to choose all out or entry level.

The prior Performance model was a phenomenal bargain.
hmmm just saw this thing. After all these years this is what they come up with? Im glad I dont like it, makes me not have to upgrade
$10k price increase... People who placed those $100 bets still thinking they're gonna get the old price honored?
Curious too. Mine still has a reservation number with the 69k price. Will be interesting if it does stay the same, but not expecting it too.
Love the new Model S and glad I waited.

I wonder if the base S will offer a Performance Boost upgrade option like the 3/Y. $2K for a .5 second reduction in 0 to 60 time would make a nifty alternative.

There are still some new/demo 2020 and 2021 inventory models left at discount prices if you reallllly want an MS Performance. Maybe they'd apply the $2k to have one shipped to you locally.
Steering wheel is awesome because your view of the instrumental cluster won't be blocked by the top portion of the wheel. I put my wheel as low as possible.
How much faster is the Roadster going to be if this thing is doing 1.9.... sheesh

Well.... I am glad we have a 2021 S in the older style. This steering wheel would have been a deal breaker IMHO.

I don't think the Roadster is going to be about faster acceleration. Not necessarily the point.
I have grave doubts about the ergonomics and livability of the new interior design, apart from finding it ugly (this would do well in the base model VW id.3, but not in a luxury car):
If my current S would be totalled, I would likely shop elsewhere (or get a recent used one).
I like the exterior design changes, if they did not take away functionality from the door handles.
- No vents
- No blinker stalk - there is a reason why every car for the last 50+ years has used this design to operate turn signals
- Apparently, a lot more will have to be controlled with two or three buttons and a touch screen, which takes your focus off the road and is downright illegal in some countries
- Steering wheel could be a security hazard, will see how that works out
- All in all, probably par for the course for a car that is intended to drive 90% of the time autonomously - except that we are still quite a bit away from that

Incorrect on the last point. On the Order page, the "FEATURE DETAILS" which is different from the "Feature Details", it lists:
I'm actually thankful I took delivery of my S in December after seeing the update. I'd have to test drive that new steering wheel first especially when backing out of tight spots in a parking garage. Not a fan of the half-steering wheel something that I would think most folks would want to test it out to see how it compares.
Also curious how that steering wheel does in snow/ice conditions on the road.
