Where do these sensors live? I'm assuming it's an update to the microphone grill to have the sensors exposed to the interior of the cabin and that's why you have to select the interior color.

The current alarm in Us/Canada spec cars has an alarm that only goes off when one of the doors, trunk or trunk is opened. It does not include glass breakage, motion sensor, or tilt sensor....

The problem is that the smash and grab happening all over CA is just going through the window and not opening up the doors, therefore the alarm doesn't go off. Owners only notice once an incident occurs when they arrive back at their cars.

The goal of this new enhancement is that it bring the security system up to par with the Euro spec Teslas by including both a motion sensor and a tilt sensor...

While it won't protect the car any more than the current system, it will notify the owner, and sound the alarm. I look it more of a deterrent...

I doubt that an alarm will stop smash and grab in SF...what will solve it is for the folks up in Sacramento to re-instate the laws that were scrapped a few years ago that didn't allow criminals to walk free for "minor" crimes! The cops now don't even bother with car break-ins, and other "minor" crimes:rolleyes:

For years I have used the "Tried and True" anti-theft" auto protection called a dirty car needing a bath. Now with my wife's old car (2012 Lancer) and now our Tesla I am no longer allowed to use this method.

However, I did find this on you-tube for anyone who wishes to protect their Tesla from both Theft and keeping the paint protected, all in one coating.

What it will do is make it more likely for the owner to come out and beat the ever-living s**t out of the people breaking in.

I *just* finished replacing the last of my camera gear after a break-in in February. They didn’t just steal over $17k in gear. They also stole weeks of my life, dealing with the insurance company, the police, etc.

I have one of these on order. If it goes off, the would-be thieves had better RUN LIKE H***. I can’t guarantee their safety if they are still there when I come out.

I saw this thread over on the S forum showing the final install photos: Enhanced Anti-theft add-on from Tesla

So it looks like you're right on the microphone grill replacement. Would be interested to see an X with the finished install.

You get the light headliner one and pick based on the date of manufacturer. I don't think anything goes into the seats, it's just a determination for when the headliners changed.

Hmm.. I ordered a light headliner / cream.

I have cloth, non PUP seats. November 2016 AP2 Manufacturer.

Not sure how the cream vs tan makes any difference?

I think the colors themselves changed. If you go through the parts catalog, you'll see the headliner is available in "Black" "Fog" and "Cream" The "Fog" was most likely the one associated with Tan seats and they moved to Cream when the cream interior came out.

My logic is that since Cream wasn't available until a later date, if you have an older car or one with light headliner/black leather; you should select the tan version.

Hopefully someone can post here when the Model S black variant is available again. It seems like it's been sold out for some time. I'm also curious whether my dashcam hooked into the power up there would be impacted, as I haven't seen any mention of issues yet.

Will the alarm go off when the small rear window is broken?

That is how it is to work. It will detect a tilt (if someone decides to hit your car, or it get towed), It will also detect movement inside the vehicle.

I assume if someone smashes your window, it should set off the alarm right away (the alarm being the horn). You will find page 135 in the updated Model S user manual on your My Tesla account on page 135, that indicates that a new option to turn off Tilt / Intrusion will be present.

Mine is being installed today, and I can report on how it works once I get my Model S back from service

Anyone have decal pics yet? My SC appoint is a week away

I posted it on the other TMC thread, but here is the image from my Model S. It's the exact same sticker for the Model X.

Note 1: While the description indicates that they give you two stickers, that's incorrect. There is only a single sticker in both the Model S and Model X box which they install on the drivers side.

Note 2: On a Model S, the sticker is visible even with tint.

Note 3: On a Model X, the windows are factory tinted, so the sticker is hardly visible which is a shame.

I had the alarm installed today and found two undocumented issues.

First, when the configuration is updated to activate the alarm it changes the way overheat protection works. When the Security Alarm is on Cabin Overheat Protection is greyed out. I checked a Model X without the new sensor and the alarm setting did not impact the Cabin Overheat Protection. There is a separate control for Tilt/Intrusion. Switching this on and off does not allow Cabin Overheat Protection. To get overheat protection you must disable the complete Security Alarm. I can understand that the new intrusion sensor precludes anyone or pet being in the cabin when it is active. The Tilt/Intrusion option should control the greying out of the Cabin Overheat Protection. When we leave our dog in the car with activate the HVAC system to maintain the proper temperature instead of Cabin Overheat Protection. The HVAC option is still available when the alarm is active. Greying Cabin Overheat Protection eliminates a second level of safety.

Second deals with how the Tilt/Intrusion option works. If you have Tilt/Intrusion turned off, when you return and unlock the vehicle the option turns back on. This means that every time I exit the vehicle while leaving my dog, I have to go to HVAC controls to leave that on and then to Controls/Safety Security and turn off the Security Alarm. It would be nice that they could make it more convenient to activate both of these options when exiting. Maybe the rumored Pet Mode will make this easier. I rue the day when If forget to turn off the Tilt/Intrusion sensor and my dog sets off the alarm alerting everyone that I have left my poor pet in an overheating car.

I have asked the Ranger who installed the system to file an issue with Tesla to see if these oversights can be addressed.
