I mean, just look at it:
Yea, you are right about that. They say copying is highest form of flattery, but it sure makes me mad.
...As do previous versions, like this 2011 Rapide:
I kinda sorta think maybe it's the other way around. Was not the Tesla Model S inspired a bit by the Aston-Martin V8 Vantage?
Rapide was first shown as a concept vehicle at the 2006 Detroit auto show.
Hmm...you may have a point about temporality, here.
Maybe it was the color and those new Rapide wheels that made me think "Model S!" where I had not before.
No further questions, your honor.
They were all designed by Fisker so that's why they look similar - he got sued by Tesla after he consulted with them about the design and then left to form his own company.
Chicken or egg, they are both dang nice looking cars and I would clean out the garage for either one.
Speaking of lookalikes, anyone ever catch a glimpse of a Kia Optima out of the corner of your eye and think MS? The proportions are definetly not right, but if you look at it quick...
Man that keyhole on the door is not very slightly.
No question the Kia is nowhere near as refined and pleasing as the MS or Rapide.
True, but for an economy vehicle they do a pretty good job at design.
Regarding look alikes, squint and many sports sedans look similar ... the desire for low drag demands certain design constraints.
anyone up for photoshopping the Rapide and MS into the same shot?
Car design is an example of convergent evolution. Low Cd, max volume, largest wheelbase, and aesthetics cause convergence. Plus same original designer in this case.
well the model s looks like a maserati granturismo, jaguar xf/xj
The interior of the Rapide is a whole different ball game. Plush but like being stuffed into a space capsule. Nice looking car though. Astons are my favorites along with the Tesla of course.
They do look very similar, but the Aston Martin Rapide has a Cd of 0.36 while Tesla Model S has a Cd of 0.24.

Nope, not true.
Fisker cannot do sedans
The RAPIDE is the sole masterpiece of their own designer and his team.
Apart from Franz maybe the most talented designer at the moment (exception, maybe behind DaSilva/Audi).
Jonathan Ive is a big fan of him, which alone says a lot.
