You might want to add your picture(s) to this thread too: Supercharger - Superior, CO

Anyone hear anything about planned superchargers along highway 40? They seem to be building up that way with Kremmling coming on-line and steamboat springs being planned. Seems like Craig and Dinosaur would be helpful as well.

Steamboat Springs has been on the coming soon map for 2.5 years+. I’m friends with the city manager and he hasn’t heard anything about a Supercharger. I think we can write that off and enjoy Kremmling and dream of Craig.

Speaking of which, has anybody checked out the Kum&Go locations in Craig recently for potential supercharger construction? I believe there are 3 K&G locations in town, with 2 of them along US-40 itself...

Ugh... neither one helps a Fort Collins <-> Steamboat trip, and North Park is almost entirely devoid of charging.

True. Where would you put one? Walden?

I took a look when he posted that and Walden was the only reasonable candidate. I honestly don't think that's going to happen any time soon. I think they'd sooner put one in Steamboat proper, but I agree with the general consensus that the Kremmling supercharger is indicative of Craig and Vernal (and likely Heber City) eventually getting built to complete that US Highway rather than Steamboat.

The Fort Collins to Steamboat roundtrip is a fairly specific use case and the work around through Laramie or Denver Metro is not good, but it isn't that bad either. I haven't dived into Plugshare, but I'm guessing there is some kind of L2 option that could also solve the problem.

I took a look at Plugshare and it lists eight locations for L2 charging, both J1772 and Tesla destination. Some might be full in ski season but it seems likely that at least one spot would be available.

It would take a fairly long charge to get back to Fort Collins. Less of a charge needed to go home the longer way via a side trip to Kremmling. Kremmling to Fort Collins is doable.

If staying in the Steamboat area for several days there should be enough time to get enough of a charge to get home.

It isn't ideal, so I can understand the frustration in not having a Supercharger Station in Steamboat Springs. Why Tesla put a Supercharger Station in Kremmling, versus Steamboat, is a puzzle to me.

Probably because of the cost of land or electricity. These things are not cheap. Getting a reliable 1 MW power supply is not trivial.

I noticed that a "coming soon" CCS/CHAdeMO in Steamboat popped up recently on plugshare: PlugShare - Find Electric Vehicle Charging Locations Near You

Apparently, it's at the Kum&Go in Steamboat - given recent supercharger builds at Kum&Go sites, it made wonder if there might possibly also be supercharger construction there, but nothing like that is visible in the one picture posted on plugshare...

I heard Tesla was skipping Steamboat Springs and going with Kremmling and Craig instead. Of course plans can always change. I think Kum & Go might just be trying to cover the market and perhaps have Tesla Superchargers in some towns and CCS/CHAdeMO in others. That way they can serve all different kinds of EVs but don't need to have both types of equipment in every location. In some towns, they might be able to have one location with Superchargers and the other with CCS. Based on the ICEing issues we've seen in Kremmling, they definitely don't have room for both Superchargers and CCS/CHAdeMO at the one location in Steamboat Springs. They do have a second Kum & Go location there though...

Of course if Tesla would just come out with a CCS adapter like they have in Europe, Tesla owners would have the best of both worlds.

The CCS/CHAdeMO charger is now online and available in Steamboat on ChargePoint's site. Additionally, Fairplay and Del Norte recently had their CCS/CHAdeMO DCFCs activated.

Great to see so many new CCS/CHAdeMO sites popping up in Colorado. It's surprising to me to see so many in tiny towns (like Fairplay or Del Norte) while some of the larger town (such as Durango, Alamosa, Cortez, Gunnison) still have nothing in terms of DC fast charging. Would be great to see superchargers show up in those places soon, but if not, then a CCS/CHAdeMO site or 2 would be nice!

Some of those places are in the plan for the Colorado CCS/Chademo network:

Electric Vehicle Fast-Charging Corridors | Colorado Energy Office

CEO Fast-Charging Corridors Map - Google My Maps

So far as Supercharger Stations are concerned, Alamosa has been on the "coming soon" map for awhile. Gunnison is not needed with Supercharger Stations in both Montrose (nearing completion) and Poncha Springs. Durango is only 46 miles from the Farmington NM Supercharger Station, although it would be more convenient for US 160 travelers.

I sure would like to see one in Cortez, however, although it hasn't been on Tesla's map. (And what about Kayenta AZ, on the "coming soon" map since 2016?)

Interesting, thanks - somehow I hadn't seen those plans. For the CEO network, I hope Del Norte didn't replace Alamosa (I have no idea if Del Norte is part of the CEO network or not). Also, Cortez is shown on the static map, but missing from the dynamic map (even though the line to Cortez remains) - I fear that means the planned CCS/CHAdeMO site there has been axed...

Anyway, yes, Alamosa, Cortez, and Kayenta would open up a lot of travel possibilities through the region - let's hope Tesla follows through soon on its longstanding plans for Alamosa and Kayenta, and adds Cortez to the mix...

I think Del Norte is more useful than Alamosa for some travel in the area since you can cut North from Del Norte towards Salida on 112/285. That said, I don't think Del Norte is a CEO corridor site but may still have received a CEO grant like the Creede and Yampa DCFCs.

Edit: Found an article with just a little info on the charger. They did get a CEO grant but it mentions nothing about the EV corridors. Del Norte Prospector | Del Norte will soon have electric vehicle charging station

BTW, I sent a polite email to the contact listed on the CEO Corridors website linked by @dgpcolorado above and asked about the status of the Cortez site in this program. I received a nice reply, which indicated that despite multiple efforts, the demand charges for the electric utility in Cortez were cost prohibitive and they were forced to relocate the site to Purgatory resort. He also mentioned that they now think a 50-62.5 kW site might work for a separate CEO grant, but are looking for a willing host in Cortez to apply for a grant (anybody know of a good potential host to suggest?).

I also wonder if the high utility demand charges hurt the chances of a supercharger site eventually being built in Cortez? Tesla could build a site with a megapack (like some new CA sites) to reduce demand charges, but this would also increase the initial cost of the site...

What about Ute Mountain Casino? About 10 miles SW of town, so might even be out of the utility’s area which has the high demand charges? Or the tribe might chalk up demand charge to drawing more customers? They surely have lots of parking and desire to bring in more customers.
