New consol in refresh Model S question

They are available again in the online store today.

I'm finally getting mine console installed on Monday, I'm really looking forward to it.

FYI.......if you use the Tesla provided dock, most phone cases are too thick to connect for charging. I purchased a few of these Amazon.com: iPhone 6, Clear Case, Crystal Clear Case, Thin Ultra Clear iphone 6 Case - Panel Protective Cover Cases: Cell Phones & Accessories Not otterbox strong, but do provide limited protection.

I have a refreshed S90D with premium and it did come with mine. The delivery specialist said he'd install it and also showed me how to do it, but he explained how inconvenient the phone placement was, due to the poor design. You cannot see the phone screen at all or touch it while driving due to the way it is positioned. The way it is positioned is also flimsy. I chose not to install it and am glad I chose not to. Personal choice... but I think many will agree that the design is flawed. YMMV

Agree with everything you describe, but its convenient when you need a charge without wires. I use the slimline by AbstractOcean for phone convenience. Its beautiful design is a sharp contrast to the flimsy dock. Have you replaced the dock with anything else?

Geez, he told me it was maxed so I believed him. I watched him closely; seems not too complicated of a contraption although I've been known to mess things up. I'll try. Thx.

PS I lived in Murfield for awhile......became a temp OSU fan since there was no one else around. Then I moved. :)

There are a couple threads which use a toothpick to slightly elevate the connector so that it works with cases. I've been looking for a way to integrate USB-C connectivity, since my phone doesn't have microUSB or lightning.

I use a aftermarket braided moldable lightning cable and I have tried both a Kenu Airframe + and a Techmatte air vent clip. In either case, they work well, but they block the air vent - on the MS the air vents are tiny and it does impact comfort level in the car because air flow is impacted.

How do you like the abstract ocean product? It looks cool, but I am afraid of what the glue will do to my obeche wood matte dash.

I love it. Not much room to work between the vent and sight line, but there is a sweet spot. I have piano and was very concerned about the glue. But after tugging, yanking and ripping the plate holder off the front end with no residual harm, I became more daring. A little dental floss to remove the glue pad when ready, and it should be fine. I think the matte finish is even safer than the piano, as its texture is more forgiving. The magnet is super strong so I just leave the disc floating inside my case...no need to stick it on the outside.

@pete8314 can you comment on concerns when removing the glue pad?

If you think about it plz post an update. If it isn't crap then I want one :)
I finally got my center console installed this week. I forgot to bring the iPhone dock (which shipped seperately to my house), so I had to do it myself. At first I thought it was junk, as I could not seat the phone reliably, and not at all with even a thin case.

The next morning, in better light, I noticed that one of the bracket's tabs missed a slot it needs to slide into on the bottom. I pulled it out and put it in correctly and now my iPhone 6+ slides right in, goes all the way down, connects solidly with the lightning connecter and starts charging. I even have a thin case on it (it would take some adjustments to use with the Tesla Leather case, but this thin case works perfectly for me: Rockstar Warehouse)

The side brackets are a big improvement over the old console's iPhone dock, since they keep the phone from falling over when you accelerate rapidly. ;) They really should have more sizes available for other phones, it only comes with brackets for the iPhone 6 and 6+ and the S versions (it should work with the upcoming 7 and 7+ too)

Thanks for the report. Worth $1250+34?

I also am very fond of the Abstract Ocean magnetic cell phone holder. I am contemplating taking a high-resolution color picture of my dash and try to cut a perfect circle to place on the top of the magnetic swivel disk (rather than the black and silver graphic provided).

It really is a nice product and I also was able to place the other slim magnet behind my cell phone case for a clean install for the phone and the car.

I agree with others that the factory cell phone dock leaves things to be desired but at least there is one for charging in a pinch.
