New Delivery - Colorado Incentive

Hi!

A friend is picking up his new Model S this Weds and was unsure how the Colorado state incentive works. He is financing through Alliant. When I purchased mine in 2015 it was still setup so that you get the state rebate when you file taxes. I believe the $5k is supposed to come off the purchase price but this isn't showing on the sales order. Thoughts?

My understanding is that the dealer can apply for the state credit on the buyer's behalf and reduce the purchase price by the same amount. Your friend should chat with the Tesla rep.

He talked to his delivery specialist and was told they wouldn't do it and he had to contact Alliant. He called Alliant and they said they couldn't do it.

Perhaps Tesla is excluded if they do not have a Colorado dealer license.

Tesla doesn't knock off the 5k of the sales price.

My understanding is that the "dealers" (I hate that word) of other car manufactures pay the 5k and then file to get it back from the state.

For Tesla, he will have to file for it in his 2017 taxes. This is what Tesla told me and my accountant confirmed. I received the 6k last year for my old Model S. Unfortunately it's only 5k now.
