You have confirmed everything I was thinking. I was 99% sure but thought maybe there was something I was misunderstanding and wanted I double check before I got assertive with them.

Unfortunately they only emailed it to me at 6pm last night and I was able to get someone on the phone shortly before they closed who told me this nonsense. My pickup time is noon tomorrow, so I’ll be leaving for NY before they open. I am concerned that there will be no one in charge who can overrule these....misinformed people.... on site tomorrow, but unfortunately I guess there is nothing I can do at this point.

One thing - who was listed as the seller for your car on your MVPA? Mine is Tesla of MA, which I wonder if that is causing the confusion for them.

I have filled out the NY sales tax exempt form, the NY transit form, and have my NH temp plates (all of which make logical sense). I’m not filling out this MA form. Hopefully there is an adult there who can back me up tomorrow on this.
"Tesla of MA" - interesting. The plot thickens. They should have sold the car through Tesla of NY. They screwed up.

You should make sure something on the paperwork says you took delivery in NY, else MA is going to want sales tax on the purchase. MA assumes a vehicle sold by a MA seller is delivered in MA, unless there is documentation otherwise (MA assumes are guilty of tax evasion unless you can prove your innocence). In addition, Tesla can get in trouble for not collecting sales tax due.

Documentation of out of MA delivery protects both the buyer and seller in this case.

They’ve had me fill out a NYS tax exempt form for auto, which lists Mt kisco as the delivery location. Also the NYS transit form (which I guess tells NY that it’s exempt from a safety exemption) also lists the pickup location as Mt Kisco. I’m not worried about proving a NY delivery from my end. Interesting that they’ve screwed up with the seller, but that shouldn’t effect me from a tax standpoint.

I’m still half expecting to not get a car tomorrow - from my end it should be as simple as not signing the registration form and handing them the check before cruising away, but it sounds like the paperwork for their side might not be in order. Given how useless every Tesla staff person I’ve met so far has been, I don’t have faith they’ll be able to fix a screwup while I wait. And my bank made the check out to Tesla of MA (had to match the MVPA), so if they do have to change the seller Tesla might not end up liking the pay to on my check. Or maybe they won’t even notice the mismatch - literally nothing will surprise me at this point.

Thanks everyone for the help. Glad to know my gut was right all along.

Good luck!

One person was a bit perplexed and another person came over and said "Another example of our dumb contracting team. Throw it in the trash."

Car acquired. They did have me fill out a transit doc which shows the car was picked up at Tesla of NY and is being driven to NH, so I think I'm covered from the tax standpoint. I did receive a call from the "Home Delivery Specialist" I worked with for everything up until this week (he took over for my ISA once the ISA realized he couldn't help me in NH). He was super apologetic for Mt. Kisco ghosting me and sending confusing information. All in all the Mt. Kisco people I met with today were awesome and I think everything should be fine. Tesla definitely needs to work on it's customer service from ordering to delivery, but I think everyone is aware of this at this point...

On a happier note, does anyone have any recommendations for inspection locations in the Salem/Plaistow area?

Tesla NY. I just took my car for inspection to the Nissan dealership that I had been taking my previous car to. They sell electric cars and are familiar with the process. They even had someone who had done a Tesla before and knew how to operate it. I was prepared to have to show them how to open the door, start the car, turn on the headlights, etc. They were surprisingly thrilled and all of the mechanics wanted to see the car.

Insanity for those of us “outliers,” who don’t live in “The Commonwealth!”

I’m in Maine and want to personally pick up my new M3, but wondering why, if there is a Tesla Service Center shown in Milford, CT, we can’t take delivery there as opposed to Mt. Kisco, NY. Does CT have that mandatory sales tax thing like MA? Anyone done this? Thanks!

I am waiting delivery of M3. i m from CT and was hoping I could take delivery from the Milford SC. From the comments it looks like I will be asked to pick up from Mt. Kisco, NY.

How has the delivery experience been so far, at Mt. Kisco?

excellent delivery at Mt. Kisco. I highly recommend them, especially if you are from CT as they know how to register the car in CT for you and how to get the CT CHEAPR rebate.

Tesla cannot sell cars in CT per CT state law. The service center is just that, a service center only. No car sales or deliveries can happen there. I believe they did do some very early on in Tesla's history but that has since stopped. I wasn't even able to put my day 1 reservation down there for my Model 3, I had to travel to Kisco.

(You have to laugh to keep from crying!) So, it seems that all New England residents, except Massfolk have to choose between a third party delivery truck dropping off our new Tesla, with no Tesla rep to ask questions or note damages OR make the pilgrimage to Mt Kisco. Sort’a sucks for that sort of money!

Well, what has been the “drop off” experience of those who had their new Tesla trucked to them?

Thanks everyone for your feedback.

My CPO S was delivered to my house in NH (12/16) by a Dedham-based Tesla employee. He used a white F250 with the Tesla logo down the side, and a single car trailer.

He gave me a quick run through, but I had already watched all the videos, and he had another delivery that day, so I didn't want to hold him up. He had 2.5 hrs to get back to Dedham.

We had our S dropped off (near Yarmouth Maine) via Tesla service truck. We wen't over the car to find any issues (didn't have anything). After that, I went to the town office and registered it. No complaints and saved us a day of time.
