New Exterior Colors?

Whats up with no new colors?

I own a 2013 model S

They have gotten rid of some colors but now it seems they have not done anything new in a long time.

Is it very expensive to add new exterior colors to the painting process?

The silver color is a bit bland compared to other luxury auto makers silver. I know a good silver is expensive but lots would pay for it.

I remember the days when you could get a car in one of about 20 to 30 colors.

Now, you just buy it black and get it wrapped if you want something that isn't red, white, black, silver or grey. Some manufacturers (including Tesla) throw in a blue hue too.

It’s probably due to production reasons. If you could make one car with the same spec in black, it’s easier than the same spec in black and white, which is either than black, white and red and so on.

Most focus is now on increasing Model 3 production to make the company profitable.

When they have a breather, maybe they will concentrate on other colors.

They are selling Model S and X (and 3) faster than they can make them now.

When I ordered a Porsche in a Model S price range, there was an option to paint it any color you want, just provide a sample and they would color match.

How much extra were they charging for this? I would suspect a quite exorbitant amount given the line has to stop and the paint shop reprogrammed.

I didn't use it (I buy white cars), but IIRC it was ~$5K on a $100K car.

I'm all for production efficiency. Just want as many EVs on the road as possible. But I sure do miss Signature Red. Wish they did it with Model 3

There was a brief period during which you could get yer Model S painted whatever color you wanted for an extra $16K iirc.

Not many availed themselves of the opportunity. Presumably because one could wrap their chariot for half the price at the time.

It would be nice if they at least brought back the titanium (think champagne if you’ve not seen one in the wild) and perhaps the green or maybe a British racing green variant.
