Picked up my MS 100D on 09/27/20117 Atlanta GA and the key fobs have a NEW HOLDER black silicone band about 5/8 inch wide that wraps around the fob and has a round key ring painted black.

Congrats on the new MS!!! They've been giving that fob holder since at least Spring of 2016.
Personally, I think its the best design I've seen. It's what mine came with and I've been using it for 1.5yrs / 40k miles with no complaints. :)

Congrats, and I guess X's get nothing because they expect you to run out and get a fob pocket from Abstract Ocean? :D (Because there are more buttons?)

I never knew S's got default holders! Learn something every day here....

Picked mine up in Atlanta (Decatur) also about 4 months ago and until your post, I didn't realize that was a fob holder and just thought it was part of the key. Oops. I learn something everyday on here.

Ok I feel like an idiot now. I thought the rubber part around the car was permanently attached. When I got my abstract ocean key fob case, I just shoved the entire key, rubber and all, into the new key fob case :(

Yeah, all we (X) get is the fob and the little key ring/lanyard thing (that you can attach to the fob inside the battery door). Much better with the AO pockets! (Unoverstretched... :D )

They didn't give me one when I picked up my car last month because they ran out.

I really dislike carrying the key fob, but I had an unfortunate circumstance where I left my phone in the car and didn't have the fob. Long story short, I had to walk 1.5 miles in sunny 98F heat, all while carrying 3 bags of groceries...Needless to say, I've been carrying the fob every since.

I wanted to buy one but was told they didn't even know where they came from. Glad you got one without even asking!

The FOBs for our late 2012 S P85 have been replaced several times because the cover over the button on the roof breaks down over time and falls off.

Hopefully they've addressed that with an improvement in the FOB design - and the new covers may provide additional protection.

I also didn't know what that big "rubber band" was. It wasn't on my FOB when I picked the car up. It was in a small packet with other trinkets and accessories.

I just bought a couple of inexpensive silicone covers off eBay. They work fine.

Be careful using the ones with string to attach to your keychain. I lost one of my fobs this way :-( the first ones they made with that tiny little string were terrible. I ended up using small zip ties to make loops on my MS key then I go through those to get it on my keychain

Nothing new, been using it for 6 months, its nice but doesn't do much to protect from drops.
