New Inventory P100D Advice

Hey guys,

I currently have an custom order 75D on order. White exterior, cream interior, premium upgrade package...

I have been browsing the last month or so for new inventory deals (For a few reasons i. e.save some money, potentially purchase higher model due to saving money, etc... ) Mainly I was hoping maybe it allowed me to buy a 100D due to a discount.

Well I never really found one that fit my needs and I really only had a few days left to get one (New inventory). Btw I was told I could transfer my 2.5K original to my new inventory purchase if I went that route.

Well today I saw the following vehicle listed. I couldn't believe the massive discount! I went ahead and got it! Yes, a P100D!! I never thought I would have but not only did it have a great discount it was a color combination I actually also really liked (Although I did not end up with that one for the custom order)

Here is my thoughts. I live in Chicago. I like music a lot. I actually preferred the glass roof.

This one has a sub roof. Standard sound. And no subzero weather package. It DOES, however, have better range, 21" grey wheels, and of course it is a P100D.

I do realize it is from late 2016. Has 4K miles on it. I can, however, still get it this year and get 7.5K federal tax credit on it (Important for me).

Advice needed. Of course no one can tell me what I should do, but I value people's opinions/thoughts.

I am thinking do I keep the new inventory p100d or go for my original order. (Music I can always upgrade with aftermarket. No problem here. SUBZERO I cannot do ANYTHING that I know of. MAIN biggest thing I want from that is STEERING WHEEL. I know. It sounds nuts, but it is a big deal.

Here it is.

If I were you I would go with the P100D... I bought a 90D inventory for a nice discount but I'd trade another 20k for a P100D in a heartbeat even if it doesn't have the subzero package. If you don't do this now you'll probably regret it and it might cost you more in the future :)

Keep in mind I preferred my original colors.

So question becomes.

What do i value more?

A acceleration boost which I trully feel how often? You also get used to any acceleration. However, yes very fast.

Or do I value glass roof, better music, better interior color in my opinion (My grand cherokee already has all black) and saving many thousands on already a very very fast car?

Seems to me the second makes more sense. I'm 27. I have a wife. She'll be driving a lot too. I feel like it's the rush of having fastest car available while sacrificing so many other everyday luxuries...

Btw my oa just now found me a 100d with everything I want. 50 miles. 12.5k price adjustment. EXACTLY how I like.

So now difference would be 18k extra for the p100d losing all those features. P100d does have 4000 plus miles as well versus 50 on this 100d. Yup I'm going with the 100d. Just seems that's the right move. After I got over the acceleration rush I'd have too many regrets.

S100d.

Agreed on 100D. I was in your boat 2 months ago and sprung for an inventory P100D...fully loaded, 1800 miles...black/white and not the blue colour I wanted. Ended up wrapping it gloss blue metallic to get it blue lol.

Coming from a 90D to the P100...I can say 98% of day to day driving will be exactly the same. I’ve only been able to fully appreciate the P100’s power on occasion and even then, it’s somewhat ‘too powerful?’ for comfort. Ie. like a jolt in the spine. The 90D was the perfect balance of refined pull and power/range at the time.

If I had to choose again, I’d choose the 100D and save the 25k...especially now with the 3.6-3.7sec :) Bragging rights on the P? For sure. But that’s about it from a practical perspective.

100D is my vote. Also better range for cold climates. Live in Toronto so similar harsh and cold winters. Get the sub zero!

With that price difference you can paint your car any color you like and add superior aftermarket sound.

Stuff like roof you cannot change aftermarket, so keep searching if that is an issue.

I have the sub zero package, and live not too far south of you. I think I've used the wheel two or three times over 40-something thousand miles. The car heats up fast, and for long trips the wind and battery temp make a much bigger impact to range in the winter than keeping the cabin warm. For daily driving, preheating is worth more to me than the heated wheel. I'd go with the P100 myself :)

Haven't seen Autopilot mentioned here at all... is that not a concern for you of AP1 vs AP2?

The standard sound will disappoint you if you love high quality sound. Yes, you can do aftermarket upgrades, but unless you go with a Tesla specialist, I would not do it. You don't want a random shop tearing down your car and putting in who knows what, and hoping it sounds decent. A proper upgrade will not be cheap.

I too miss a heated steering wheel (my car doesn't have subzero). People saying preheating the car is sufficient are not correct IMO. There is a BIG difference between touching a 70~ degree steering wheel (from pre-heat) and a 90+ degree wheel from a proper heated steering wheel when your hands are cold. I drove a loaner 2 times recently with the heated wheel and severely wished my car had it, or that Tesla offered it as an upgrade for cars that don't.

The new speed upgrade for the 100Ds is awesome. You rarely will ever utilize the P100D's acceleration. Yeah, it sounds awesome having a P100D, but in reality, it doesn't matter. The creature comforts you love (sound, heated wheel) will be put to MUCH MORE USE than an additional second of acceleration.

I'd get the 100D.

So both cars do have AP 2.0 so no difference there.

I went with the 100d. It has everything I wanted at a nice 12.5k discount. 50 miles on car.

From what I hear and see I will not be using the full acceleration potential of the p100d often. In fact, it will be extremely rare.

100d is so so quick already. I actually agree with a previous poster who mentioned the p100d being almost too rough while full accelerating. I have not experienced it, but fully understand it being very possible.

I think many would go with the p100d. In fact I would too if it had subzero, music, and glass roof. I think that's about a 2.5k extra charge netting the three options. However, it unfortunately didn't and I know someone is probably I'm a warmer place, who needs a sunroof and doesn't care about music at all. He/she should grab it and be thrilled!
