New Model 3 delivery and VIN assignment method

Just got an email from my delivery specialist today telling me that my Model 3 is ready and can be picked up as early as in two days. When I ask the delivery specialist for a VIN, he basically says that they track configurations stats and adjust production accordingly. Then they will batch match buyers with their config. A specific VIN is only assigned when delivery date is confirmed. So I told him the date that I am comfortable with and he say the contract team will draft up the contract and a VIN will be assigned. I just found my VIN number under the mytesla page about 10 hours later.

Delivery center: Fremont
Spec: Black P3D

Once thing I found interesting is that I was still able to access the backdoor edit page as early as last night. So I don't think edit button matters that much anymore. At least for people who are close to the factory.

For a fellow Tesla buyer, do you mind asking your delivery specialist how long you'd possibly be able to delay your delivery? I want to place an order for a model 3 RWD soon (to make sure I receive 100% of the $7500 tax incentive), but I wouldn't able to drive it until December/November-ish due to being away at university. If you can, let me know what he/she says! Thanks

Edit: I've been keeping up with the forums and buyers who've had the same configurations as me and are getting turnarounds as quick as days from configuration from scratch to scheduled delivery. So hence my worrying

19 inch forged wheel group buy, ppf for full front, tint, plus do the ceramic coating myself.
Where were you planning on getting the ppf from? I’ve gotten quotes for multiple locations, was just curious where you were gonna go to. Tint as well!
Lol and I’m also on the fence about whether the ppf people should do the ceramic coat or whether I should do it. If I decide and do it myself we should have a ceramic coat DIY party ;)

For ppf I had couple of quotes from before through Yelp that I'll probably go back and look through. Ceramic coat isn't for everyone, before the coating you probably want a light paint correction to it's as smooth as possible, that will take about 8 hours. The coating itself will take another 8 hours when done carefully. Also, you'll most likely make some mistake when doing the coating the first time, it will require repolish. Depends on which coating you use, it may take several pass of polish to remove. But if you have lots of time and short on money, it's not a bad learning experience.

I was told they can hold the car for 7 days. I live not too far from the factory but they are doing home delivery in two weeks for me. Wishful thinking, but would be seeet if they could just drive the car off the line and too my house so it doesn’t have to sit around in some parking lot picking up bird poop.

You know what, I just checked my configuration on Tesla, and they updated the LR RWD configuration to "delivery within 4 weeks" instead of the "~2-4months" that used to be there! ONLY for the RWD model though

Edit: the performance model is now sitting at "delivery within 2 months" for me as well, while AWD no-P is still "~2-4 months"
