Canadian Tire missed an opportunity here to kick start a national network of fast chargers at their stores. Shame.

Canadian tire does significant sales in both auto parts, fuel, fluids and auto service. None of these businesses are going to improve with the development of EVs. I can see why they may not be particularly motivated to promote them.

OnRoute did apply for a grant to cover all of its locations, but it was not retained.

There were three or four applications for every one accepted.

The major problem with their bid was probably that they partnered with an out-of-province network. KSI had an edge due to being in Ontario and being supplied for L2 by GE Canada, which is also heavily Ontario-based.

I think EVs don't require a lot of fuel. As far as parts, service and fluids... I suppose I've bought a couple of jugs of windshield fluid - but nothing else. And I'd never let the clowns in the Canadian tire service department near the car.

Sure they do -- we sorely need more places to "fuel up" (Level 3 chargers) and a national network across the nearly 500 Canadian Tire stores in Canada would go an awful long way in encouraging mainstream EV adoption. IKEA is well on the way to having such facilities at their locations, Canadian Tire has a much bigger footprint. Plus I'd gladly grab a few things for the car or my kitchen while fast charging at a CT.

And I'd never let the clowns in the Canadian tire service department near the car.

I'm not disagreeing, but once EVs are mainstream, I'm sure CT will be in the business of servicing them. Especially for banal things like tires and brakes. Ultimately they will have to prove some capabilities in this department, but creating a national network of chargers would be a great signal to the marketplace that they want to service and support all vehicles, not just conventionally fuelled vehicles.

McDonald's is a franchise system and they signed up for dozens of fast chargers in the new program, so it's easier done than you claim.

The L3 are dual CHAdeMO/CCS. An S85 should get about 225 km/h until tapering kicks in at 76% SOC.

Hurray! Two L3 chargers, at McDonalds & Tim Hortons, in Thunder Bay, two L3s in Fort Francis, and two L3s in Sualt Ste Marie. Circumnavigating Lake Superior just got much easier (though the Wisconsin part is still tricky). Do we know what payment network these Ontario chargers will be using?

I'm sure it's going to be over budget and a boondoggle of some sort, but it's good to see the L3 chargers across the Western chunk of the province, making EV cross country/long distance driving manageable. It looks like Tesla met its match in Ontario as far as Canada is concerned. I've done a trip to Kenora in the past, and can see myself doing it again in the future a few more times, so having that there is a bright light.

I think you are correct but that is a different thread, the chargers being discussed in this thread are not Tesla supercharges.
