Agreed. $1k is VERY high. I'm in an expensive area (NY suburb), and swapping my breaker & adding the NEMA 14-50R outlet to the wall was $350. That didn't include the wire being run since when I built my house I had added a 60 amp line.
$350 to not even include running ANY wire? Wow, that's really expensive.
I think that option has been on the design center page for a while. At least, it was for Model S...at least since July 1.
