New Order - Is it possible to ask Telsa to wait for new headlights/console?

Hello! Long time lurker here.

We have a 2020 M3 at the moment and just placed an order for a MY last week. We were told it could be delivered any time between now and March 31st.

My question is, now with the new headlights and center consoles rolling out soon, is it possible to request Tesla to wait until they have a MY with the new console + headlights?

And any idea how long it'll be before that would be delivered? Currently my wife uses the M3 for her daily commute. I sold off my 2018 CRV privately as Tesla was giving me peanuts for it. I'm currently still working from home for the foreseeable future, so I don't need to take delivery for the MY any time soon.

Yeah I saw a post about the new headlights being delivered, not sure whether this is going to be standard or not going forward.

I believe that Tesla intends to only source one style of headlight for Model 3 and Model Y, going forward, for both US and Europe.

During the past week I've been in communications with a Tesla customer service rep at their Bethesda, MD store who told me that I could place a Model Y order now, lock in current pricing, and add a note to the order mentioning that I would not be taking delivery until the center console refresh is being produced.

Note you actually have a few times you can just ignore the request for picking up your car. It'll just assign your car to another person. I have a friend who just did that as he was considering other EVs also (wants to see how ID.4 pans out and also Mercedes' EV). Eventually even if you exhaust that, at most you are out your $100 (and you might have to reorder and wait again).

I was due to have delivery on 2/19 of a MYLR Blue with a 2/1 build date which was delivered today and it didn't have the new console (builds after 2/8 do supposedly) and the advisor said no problem to unmatch me and wait for one with the new console.

Don't get us started here too.....! There are a couple of threads that discuss ad nauseum what is 'coming soon'. Right now, only the new console and headlights have seen the light of day.

To get back to OP question - I was assigned a VIN today for delivery between Feb 17 and Feb 22 - I asked to be 'unassigned' because I don't want the car until after 3/1 (NEMA 14-50 outlet being installed that day). And I want the new console. I'm not as concerned about the lights as the 'regular' lights on the MY are better than anything I have now.

Just an update - I got assigned a 126XXX VIN for my MY, I was able to get in touch with the mobile service specialist that usually services our Model 3 (since my sales advisor is no where to be found after 3 emails and 4 voicemails)

He says I have the new center console and heated steering wheel for sure, but he can't see anything about the headlights.

I haven’t gotten a response. How can you find out the build date on your car? I placed my order on 2/11/21. In my email I requested to wait for new features but, again, haven’t heard from her. Now just trying to find out what my cars build date was???

Congrats, it is not a long wait .. would you mind sharing the details i.e. SR or LR ?
Build date - you will to check with your SA or on the car itself when it is delivered but for sure SA can able to get you the information you're requesting before hand.

You probably have the heated wheel, that's been around since early December. Probably not the HEPA filter, haven't seen that on the US MY yet. 'Maybe' on the other 2. They should be able to tell you when the car arrives - if you're picking up on Sat, it will probably be there NLT than tomorrow.

thanks so much!!! If it doesn’t and I tell them I want to wait any idea how long for delivery for the new center console? Is it about the same two weeks?

It really depends on a number of things.... Availability of a match, time of the year (some think that at end of quarter, they prioritize deliveries close to the Fremont factory), luck..... The new consoles are out there and have been seen in the LR MY.

I called yesterday to defer my LRAWD order an the representative said that deferment wasn't a problem so long as the order is fulfilled within 3 months. Is the 3 month limit new? I don't remember anyone talk about that before. Regardless, I am just waiting for my car to sell before I can pick up my new one.
