New Supercharger locations in 2017, WA

While I'm generally bullish on casino superchargers (24/7 restrooms and food and usually large parking lots with plenty of empty space), adding one at Emerald Queen would be questionable. It is the worst of the worst in terms of degenerate casino clientele and that is really saying something. Also the management and security there have always left something to be desired.

Finding a location that is both close to I-5 and safe 24/7 in Tacoma will be challenging.

Good point. Ugh people.

I had actually thought of that and I do think it seems like the best spot. I assume they have security roaming the lot 24/7 and that area isn't too bad anyway. I think that Krispy Kreme used to be open 24/7 but unfortunately it isn't any more. Being near a 24 hour business is helpful both in terms of bathrooms and safety.

It's been a good year for WA. With Issaquah USpC (Urban SuperCharger) now up and running we're already seeing that it's likely going to be over subscribed. There's hopefully 1 or 2 additional sites in WA that could be completed this year.

Anyone want a sportsman's bet on which is next? My bet is:
  1. Ellensberg SpC (Expansion) [Significant over-subscription and failure/low-charge rates]
  2. Tacoma/North Olympia SpC (New) [Visitors from south visiting Seattle struggle]
  3. Ritzville SpC (Expansion) [Some over-subscription on significant corridor]
  4. Bellevue USpC (New) [Construction this close to holidays makes this very unlikely imo]
  5. Forks SpC (New) [at some time they really really have to meet one of the annual promises to do this ;-)]
Others?

1. Ellensburg Expansion. (Maybe that's just me being optimistic that Tesla fully understands how over subscribed\essential it is.)
2. University Village urban.
3. Bellevue urban.

After that I have no guess.

My priorities would be:
1) Ellensburg Expansion
2) Seattle urban supercharger.
(So many apartment dwellers need charging.)
3) Cle Elum

With all the constant, never-ending construction at University Village, they should just go ahead and throw in a bunch of USpC's. I'm sure the Tesla showroom there would be happy too.

Same goes for Bellevue Square and their showroom. Surprised that Kemper Freeman hasn't shoved this through all the red tape yet.

I posted in the Ritzville thread that the guy at the front desk of the hotel said they are in talks with Tesla about expanding that one from the measly 4 stalls.

Did a drive by at Pioneer Coffee in Cle Elum last night and didn't see anything. No sign of anything at Ellensburg supercharger either. Don't think they have room there. With Issaquah open and Ritzville (hopefully) expanding, that should take some of the pressure of Ellensburg. Of course Cle Elum would really take the pressure off.

If Bellevue isn’t completed in the next 3 weeks I can’t imagine they’ll allow it as it’s too close to holiday shopping for belsquare mall. It’s not started yet, so... yea... can’t see that happening

Vancouver. Clark County, Washington's forgotten metro area...

Vancouver already has a supercharger? Or did you mean additional ones?

The Vancouver, WA supercharger opened earlier this year. It's at the Salmon Creek Fred Meyers a few blocks west of the interchange where I-5 and I-205 split.

Vancouver, WA Supercharger | Tesla

Before this year there were no SC between Woodburn, OR and Centralia. This year the Tigard, OR urban supercharger opened (same mall as the original Portland Tesla store) and Vancouver, WA.

I think you need to re-read MikeBur's original post. He's speculating about which supercharger will be built next. Vancouver was already built so it's out of the running. Unless you think they will build a 2nd location in Vancouver which would be kind of weird.

I keep thinking about this more. Why aren’t there more Seattle urban chargers? It’s been a while now since living downtown, though the infrastructure used to be dire. Admittedly I don’t know if the newer condo/apartment buildings have significant changing for residents, though considering how many Tesla’s are sold through WA it would appear to be desperately needed.... more so even than Alderwood was (?).

I think the typical person who lives in DT Seattle, probably drives significantly less for commuting vs. the reason why Issaquah needed Urban Superchargers. My guess is most people who live in DT Seattle, work in DT Seattle. And a random trip to the "suburbs" or finding a random L2 charger (free or fee) is enough to "top-up" for them. — I have several friends who live in DT Seattle, apartments, condos or otherwise, pay for an expensive assigned parking spot, and lease expensive vehicles of which they literally only drive 1,000-2,000 miles a year, tops. Replace their ICE with BEV, and you'd probably see the same situation where they really don't need to charge that often.

That's one guess.

My other guess is, where the heck would they put it? ;) Though if and when one goes up at University Village, that would be a great location.

When I commute to Seattle from "the burbs", I just charge at home. USpC in DT Seattle would be nice, but I would rarely if ever use it. My guess is it would be used mostly, by DT Seattle Tesla owners who just finished a long trip over the weekend instead of charging up somewhere else along the way at an existing SpC location.

Whoops, my bad :( Sorry about that...

I think Tesla would do better to put the urban superchargers in places where there are a lot of apartment and condo dwellers who have long commutes. There probably are a number of those in Seattle who work in Redmond. When I contracted at Microsoft it seemed half the people in the group lived in Seattle. But there are also a lot of people in burbs who commute to another burb for work. I was commuting from Kent to Redmond.

Here in the Vancouver area there is a huge concentration of apartments and condos near I-205 just across the bridge and a lot of those people commute into Portland every day. An urban supercharger convenient for those people would probably encourage Tesla ownership among those folk. Almost everyone I've met in the Portland area who has a long commute wants an EV.

I don't know why they put the first one in Portland in Tigard except it's at the same mall as the Tesla store. There are a lot of office parks around there, but I think most of the local residential property are single family homes. Maybe they figure people can charge up on their lunch break or something?

Unfortunately, I think you’re too optimistic. We’ll be lucky if they get one done. No permits or signs of construction materials have been found. It usually takes a month or so after construction starts and when you factor in weather and holidays, that may add delay. I just want Cle Elum or EBurg and The Dalles or Hood River by next April.

I did preface with “hopefully 1 or 2” ;)

I hadn’t thought about OR, though Hood River would be good as a more western SpC along that corridor.

Lol, no worries. There does appear to be an increasing number of people residing in WA, and working regularly in OR...

What makes Tigard even stranger is the HWPCs outside the store, and then the addition of USpC pretty much underneath them in the parking garage. Good for mall rats shopping, though.
