New York Rebate

I've been researching the New York rebate of $2,000 and I'm disappointed with what I've found. First, you have to buy the car in New York to get the rebate. I'm in the Albany area and would've considered the store in Natick, MA, but that's not allowed. The closest New York store is the one in Mount Kisco, NY, but I also found out that you can only buy from "participating" stores and Mt. Kisco is not on the list, only the Manhattan and Brooklyn stores are:

Participating Dealers - NYSERDA

So now I have to travel to either Brooklyn or Manhattan to get the rebate. Does anyone know if this has changed and the NYSERDA list is out of date? I sent an email to the Mt. Kisco store but haven't heard back. If this is right, my very first drive with my model 3 will be through New York City traffic and over New York City bridges. Uggghhhh.....

When I asked this question in the Model S forum I was told you don't need to worry about the "dealer". You can get home delivery and Tesla will take care of handling the rebate. I'll try to find that thread and link it here. There may be some updates since I last looked.

Found it.

His answer to you seems to miss the question. Yes, if you find the right store, the rebate is automatic, no paperwork required, but I'm still not certain that you have to find the right store in the first place. I sent him a reply hoping he can provide more info.

Yeah, that's why I asked if he picked his up at one of the SC's. I was hoping to get a better reply from someone but it's so automatic when taking delivery at an SC that no one really pays attention. I figured I'd ask my SA once I get assigned one.

Not too long ago was a story about Tesla still fighting NY to get more stores up and running. Right now they are only allowed 5 for the WHOLE state!
Not sure about where you picking up would make a difference. Tesla is going to charge tax based on you home address. I have read some of the NY EV Tax/ rebate and don't remember anything about location being part of the rebate.

I finally heard back from Mt. Kisco Tesla, good news:

Hello Tony,

I can confirm if you take delivery of your vehicle in the Mount Kisco Service Center and are registering to a NY address, you are eligible for the NYS EV Rebate as per Drive Clean Rebate for Electric Cars - NYSERDA .

As long as the MSRP of your vehicle is below $60,000 , you will receive the max rebate of $2000.

Please let us know if you have any further questions.

Respectfully,

This only confirns what is clearly stated on the NY EV Rebate web site. There are 3 known approved SC's and you get the rebate when taking delivery at one of them. But I have no desire to drive or fly to the other end of the state to pick up my 3 and then drive 7 or 8 hours to get home.

My question has been whether I can get the rebate if Tesla delivers it directly to my home. Assuming an SC needs to be involved can it be a "paper transaction". Meaning can I work with one of the three approved SCs to arrange delivery and submit paperwork to them without ever setting foot in one of them? I'll email my question to them and post the response here.

Can anyone who has taken delivery of a Model 3 confirm that they received the full $2,000 NY rebate?

I am getting ready to order my Model 3 but configurator is showing only $500 even though the car meets the criteria for the full $2000. NY states EV rebate website also lists the Model 3 as eligible for the full $2,00, see attached images.
This could be an error in the configurator, which is why I am looking for confirmation from someone who has taken delivery already.

Thanks.

It's definitely $2,000 for the Model 3. I wouldn't be surprised if that part of the configurator was copied from the Model S or X configurator and somebody forgot to update that part. Either that or they just keyed the lookup table wrong. But I'll know for sure in a couple days when I get my final paperwork and will post it here.
