Newbie autopilot question

Is it true that without FSD autopilot disengages every time I change lanes regardless of whether I use the turn signal and I have to Re engage it once I am in the new lane? If so, I don’t like that.

Didn't do that for me, if I recall, before I pushed the fsd button

JeffreyC, if I understand your question correctly, if you don't have FSD then when on Autopilot the car will hold it's lane but a lane change will require you to disengage AP and reengage AP when you are in the lane you want to be in.​

In the past Tesla has for a limited time let current Tesla owners who have not purchased Full Self Driving (FSD) purchase the Enhanced Auto Pilot option. EAP includes Navigate on Autopilot (NOA). NOA functions like FSD from highway on ramp to highway off ramp, including automatically making lanes changes. No one knows if or when Tesla will offer EAP for sale again. The price for adding EAP to the vehicle was historically a fraction (half?) of the price of FSD. The future price for EAP is unknown.

If I’m not mistaken, you can just use your turn indicator while using autopilot and it will lane change for you without needing to disengage. However, if you manually change lanes with your steering wheel, autopilot will always disengage, both with and without FSD.

OP You are talking about the autosteer feature. If you turn the wheel enough to change lanes that turns autosteer off. Automatic lane change is not included in regular autopilot.

That is only available with EAP and FSD.

Our KIA will automatically reengage auto steer after you have changed lanes using a turn signal. That’s a nice feature I wish our Tesla had. Shouldn’t have to spend $10,000 for that basic option.
