Newbie Question: Charging at non-Superchargers?

Hey All,

First EV I've ever owned, let alone a Tesla. There are a lot of convenient Superchargers near me (so lucky, two within 2 miles of my home), but there are even more non Superchargers even closer. Do those other types of chargers plug right into the Tesla charging port? Or do I need something special?

for a 1772 charger of course.

there’s a CHADEMO adapter in the online store too... $450!!!

The Chademo adapter is hardly worth the money unless you have a very specific need for it. It's limited to 50 kw (20% of the speed of a V3 Supercharger) and in practice it's even lower than that.

Well, it came with MY car, but that was almost 2 years ago and things (meaning, accessories) change, so I didn't want to assume. @noshadow , did it come with your car?

I have to finish working to go check! It may have. All I did was pull out the charging cable and plug it into the house. I bet there's an adapter, at least I hope so.

Even with all the local chargers, you will find that charging overnight at home is by far the least intrusive option. But if you only have 110v available, you will only get 40-50 mi of range that way. A 220 v outlet at home really is not a luxury with a Tesla.

The car does come with a J1772 adapter. Anything other than a Tesla super charger or destination charger will require some sort of adapter. Tesla's port on the car is 100% proprietary.
